John Henderson......health notice

i remember i bet on you with slim. he was booking the matches. i got like 3 to 1. dont remember the score or much about it but you did beat him. i went against the money on that one because i felt it wasnt going to be a dump. and it wasnt.
you were one of the few that could be trusted.
I think a few details of the match were in one of the Eddie Robin books. I believe Jay was slightly hooked behind the stack on the ball nearest Jimmy's pocket, and decided to jump over the edge of the stack, ended up banking the ball straight in his hole, and Jay played well the rest of the match, while Jimmy was shellshocked and pushed too hard, which led to the upset.

Close enough. That shot is diagrammed in Shots, Moves and Strategies. I actually shot through the object ball at an angle to make the bank shot (got lucky there, was just trying to move it toward my hole), and run out that game. Jimmy later gave me 8-7 at Marina Billiards in L.A. and got his revenge. :)

Yeah, sorry about that. Been awhile since I went through either book thoroughly... Your shot was even more nuts, as it prolly pushed a good portion of the rack to his side of the table..... 😁

alot of those shots if you hit them harder send the balls back over to your side. just have to learn how multiple balls go .
thats how tony ends up looking so good. and ronnie allen. they have and had that mastered.

few know how good jay really played when he was younger. he is one of those that doesnt build himself up.
I had my moments ;). Probably the second best feeling in the world for me was that of being in Dead Stroke, where it felt like I had the cue ball on a string and could make any shot I want. It was more of an unconscious sensation, not having to think about anything, just take one look and get down and do it! It's been a long time but I remember that feeling above all, being totally in control of myself and the pool table. C'est la vie

That wasn't the exact set up but close. The cue ball and object ball were a little further from the pack and closer to the end rail by a few inches. There is a science to shooting through the object that can be taught. It begins by bisecting the angle or direction you want the cue ball to travel. I practiced shots like this quite a bit. The only real variable was what type of cue ball you were using. The red circle played differently than the blue circle.

i read on onepocket.org that john passed. 😞
If true, it’s a sad day.

I watched him play live around a month ago on a steam from California.

He was making having fun and hitting them sporty.
He is an inspiration.

Very sad. Never met him but liked reading his posts (I lurk on one pocket.org but haven’t joined). I really liked his commentary on one pocket. When he and Joe Long were together in Post Up’s booth it was a riot. I think we can all hope for our last days to be similar to his in that he was mentally sharp and could play until very close to the end. In the recent tournament he was on stream I liked watching him. He took like 12 minutes to get to the table but when he assessed the shot and got down on it he looked 30-40 years younger. Player till the end.

Will pray for the repose of his soul in this season of All Saints/All Souls.
