Another chicken shit “foul”

No particular disagreement with you Dave. Understanding the rule, and the spirit of the rule, is an important distinction in this particular case, IMO.

Following the rule would have resulted in NO controversy ... relying on others to follow the same spirit seems misguided to me.

But not a dry day divot....
I saw a few months back final holes, player drove it in to the r/side rough.
Ball disappeared into the tree, caromed off the tree, it came out, landed on fairway and went forward another 20 yards towards the hole, the announcers couldn't believe it.
Cost the for sure winner (one would think) at least a million to get that lucky roll, but ''chit happens'' when your playing with round objects.

When it's wet outside, sometimes the golfers are allowed to lift, clean, and place, even in the fairway.
😉
Correct. But those exceptions are established before play begins and are applied to everyone. Not halfway through and subject to an individual competitor or referee's interpretation.

TDs often do the same in applying rules within their tournament. That results in everybody playing under the same set of rules the entire time.

I imagine that fella didn't even realize that he was violating a "rule," as the cue ball was nearly stopped. But, as many a law enforcement officer has explained to me, politely...ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Nothing to do with how you were raised my friend, and I think you were raised just fine. I too would not point that out to a ref to get a win ... but I do not play for money (in tournaments or gambling). Obviously the player in the video had other ideas, and it's his prerogative to call it out ... and of course the referee was also involved, not sure they are wanting to make mistakes.

Texas Carom Club is entitled to his opinion, but it's not going to change people or rules ... and I found his wording and his general demeanor telling.

Dave
And I find someone that doesn’t play in tournaments or money opinions on the matter more telling

Like the drunk said to the cop, I was in the bar where I do get drunk with no problems.
But the guys in the bar pushed me outside, then I get arrested for public intoxication. :)

Yeah I agree to some here. Any moving ball/balls should not be disturbed until full stop. That is the rule for all not just for one. That guy did not dare to listen nor read the rules. He must be busy gambling. Only in gambling match that this can be done.

But, then, snooker players will call such fouls on themselves when even the camera doesn't pick it up.
Interestingly, one thing I have noticed about cultural differences playing the game where I am now...
- Europeans will always call the foul on themselves, often at their own detriment, and often even being berated by their team mates for doing so... Usually picking the ball up and giving it to the opponent as soon as they foul.
- Americans want you to call the foul on them, otherwise they say nothing, and see it as the other player, or referees job to do this.
- Chinese nudge the ball, look at you and laugh, and put it back and carry on :ROFLMAO:

This is what I have noticed in team based league games, or at the bar - in fact, two or three times I have seen Americans yell at their team mates regarding this.

In the few tournament I have played, the same applies - except for Chinese now follow the exact letter of the rules, and take a more European approach to the rules, and call the foul on themselves. Americans, I have noted, still say nothing and want you to call them out.

This is not a flippant observation, but one grounded in many experiences in my short time playing the game here against international opposition (note Japanese, Korean friends have tended to take the more European approach, and Phillipino friends, the more American approach - though I have far less experience against people from these countries - maybe 10 or so players from each).

Anyone got the full game video. I’d love to check if the other guy ever took the balls out early. Anyone know the opponents name?

Ok so I couldn’t sleep! Found the semi final with the player that called this “foul”. Looks like he was pattern racking, his opponent calls him up on it at 17 minutes approx in video. Photo of his 3 successive racks show how he made sure 7 and 8 then 4 and 6 on same row. With 235 at back. He clearly chooses which balls to take .
I think it shows what type of person he is 🤔
