MOSCONI CUP 2023 AZB Watch Party / Master Thread

If Albin looked like he was having fun with Jayson and Joshua celebrating like good little boys then Id have problems.

Albin did not look like he likes acting like Jayson and Joshua. I hope he knows thats a good thing.

Albin is related to an older pro, the standard for him is higher.
Jayson and Joshua are an embarrassment to professional pool. Cringeworthy. They remind me of NFL end zone post touchdown AssClown antics.

I may be suffering from premature senility, but I seem to recall Earl jumping up on the table after winning a tournament on more than one occasion, and didn't the Americans also do that in 2018 and 2019? Didn't Sky go running around the table thumping his chest before sinking that final 9 ball combo?

Personally I think Shaw overdoes it while the game is still going on, but like others have said, the best way to stop it is to keep him sitting in his chair.

The MC is supposed to be fun and entertaining, seems like a lot of you want to be MISERABLE at every tournament. Stay home, turn off your TV or computer and smash your head against the wall, the MC ISN'T FOR YOU!

If every tournament had crowds like MC many more would watch and more importantly ATTEND THE EVENT.

The "GET OFF MY LAWN" crowd needs to go. Thousands of hours of 6 people in the crowd either sleeping or on their phones isn't getting the job done.

You’re right. It isn’t for people that want to project a different image of the sport that has put it in the dark, smoky basement and played by transient hustlers and misfits.

Congrats on the dumbest post of the day

Where is the MC dark?
Where is the MC smokey?
Where are the hustlers and misfits?

MC is 100% the opposite of that, and you know what else, ITS FUN!!!

I swear to God, most of you have to be hired trolls

I would love to know what the typical travel expenses are for those that don't have lucrative sponsorship deals...
...
I guess you were asking about the pro snooker players. Everyone with a tour card is guaranteed 20,000 pounds ($25k) whether they cash or not. I think that's enough to cover travel costs to most ranking events if they live in England and are frugal. So far as I know, tour events do not have an entry fee.

with justin bergman, iirc. he would make a big difference.
Maybe. Bergman wasn't on that USA-winning 2018 team. He was on the winning 2019 team, but had the worst record of the 5 Americans. Overall in 4 Cups he has done decently (3-2) in the games he played in the Teams matches and in his doubles matches (5-5) but not well in singles (1-6).

Edit -- And, by the way, 2 of Bergman's 4 Cup appearances were in England. So he used to travel. Covid seemed to be when that stopped, but maybe he'll start traveling again at some point.

i don't know if he likes top heavy payouts but he has long been an opponent of show up money or guaranteed minimum income for tour players. he's not running snooker anymore though, so since some year back the 128 tour players now have a guaranteed minimum income of 20k GBP.

whether that approach is right or wrong could be argued. i think the minimum income makes some sense, travel costs are tougher on those not in the winner's circle. this is even more true in pool.
Well he voted against the 20k minimum so he must not have been all that for it.

MC is a MR-owned/produced made-4-BRITISH-tv exhibition. That's all it is and the likelihood of the US actually competing for it anytime soon is a train that's done left the station.

maybe. looking at fargo it does seem so, but i don't know too much about the junior scene. eric roberts and lazar martinez look promising. i do think if the 9-ball tour grows in prize money in opportunity, american talent growth will hasten too.

i still say keep the mosconi cup as it is. add an efren reyes cup for the winners of the mosconi.

That is my opinion for why one should pick open or closed, what is yours? Why do you think open bridge is better objectively?
If one uses the line of the shaft as their aiming aid / system, an open bridge allows for a far better unobstructed view of that line to your object ball contact point as opposed to a closed bridge.

There is zero input for what makes the Mosconi fun for female players. Its clear MC is not for players to watch for fun only drunks.

They are all like its pool porn.

Guys really get off of it.

Zero value to women other then to see how embarrassing boys get.

I agree here, but just IMO Shaw and Filler took it to another level of idiocy. Raising your hands after every couple of shots, cupping your ear to the crowd, and that silly dance where they flail their arms about...just too much. And I do get what they are trying for, and I'm sure they have all been told to keep the crowd entertained. Just seems those two went way overboard in trying to embarrass their opponent. You are already killing them, why go overboard rubbing their faces in it.

More times than not, that kind of stuff gets you in trouble, and not necessarily on the pool table. I vaguely remember Dennis Hatch being unimpressed with Filler's antics one year, and it almost got Filler's skinny neck wrung...

I was thinking more along the lines of someone like a Chris Reinhold type up- and- comer to, say, travel to Hanoi or the European open or the like. Must be a multiple thousand dollar trip, with a statistically small chance of cashing.

Celebrations are for the winners not the losers, if the losers don't like it, they can stay home next year 😁.

I get what you're saying but the crowd enjoys it, hell, I even enjoy it and I'm in the losing country every year lol.

Nobody gets out of life alive, may as enjoy what we can - if we can't enjoy MC what pool can we enjoy?

Don't tell me for one second that if the USA made a comeback everybody wouldn't have enjoyed our team putting it right back in their face. It's all about fun, not everybody gets a trophy(even though they get medals)

SVB has played TAR matches and never celebrated like Jayson or Joshua

I guess I’m old school - Celebrations should be saved for the successful execution of that final potted shot that clinches the entire tournament, and only after graciously and respectfully shaking your opponent’s hand.

This is an exhibition!!!

What's so hard about understing this is for FUN?

I bet most of you on here are the ones that attack, throw beers, insults etc. fans from the opposing team when you go to a game.

The one event of the year that is supposed to be fun for players and fans...you people are the reason pool sucks and nobody watches.

The losing team is paid $20,000 I believe.

Glad I've been selling my cues.
