Rhino CF shafts....159bux, free ship

I've got my same issue with rhino that has prevented me getting a revo so far. The cue I want to use it on is 5/16-14 flat faced, and these have a pilot.

I asked about 29" and flat faced, they said they couldn't do anything about the pilot, but could do the custom length for $25 more.

Anybody ever just chuck the shaft in a lathe and machine off the pilot so the shaft is flush? Is that possible?
I had to do that to get a spare 314 to fit onto my Larry Vigus. It should not be any problem.

That's surprising about the pilot, my Rhino came with a flat faced 5/16-18 I'm very surprised that the 5/16-14 isn't flat faced as well. In any case yes I'm sure just putting it in a lathe a cutting off that pilot shouldn't pose any problem in the least.

99% of 5/16-14 are piloted. (maybe Joss started that trend?)
99% of 5/16-18 are flat faced. (I believe Meucci started that trend)

My shaft just shipped (label created anyway). It’s USPS from San Antonio, Texas. I assume it will be picked up tomorrow afternoon and get to me in Atlanta a few days later. Maybe a week due to Xmas gifts.

After hearing the coments on two different options for 5/16x14 I emailed them late this aft to see about that.
They just got back and said only one option now, I think she stated the tight or normal, not loose, I think was what she stated. She did ask to let her know if any issues. I am really impressed by their attention to customer service.

Yes they are have very good CS., I think you'll be happy with their shaft as well.

Yes mine was shipped the same way, it actually arrived by mail faster than originally predicted.

They sent me a video of tight inser vs loose. In my opinion, if they do have both options, that makes them even more awesome.

Just relooked at their reply to me and supposidly are only shipping tight thread version now. If yours is for a Schon, would be interested on how it works as I don't have a ship notice yet. I do have a lathe to cut back the pilot if need be.

One of the shafts I ordered is for a Schon. We’ll see how it fits…

I tried ordering the Komet break cue but no dice. It won't take a CC. PP is out of the question so... rats.

I avoid paypal at all costs also, but really don't have much of an issue with it when it links to my credit card for payment.

Received the shaft. As a reminder:

5/16-14, Medium tip

Package:

In a sleeve, in a plastic shaft tube, in a 1x1x30 square profile cardstock primary package, in a 2x2x30 shipper corrugated. I can imagine how easy it would have been to get snapped in half.

Fit

as a reminder, I was concerned that this would be too tight to fit my Tascarella as Rhino didn’t seem to understand that Tascarella is full-size 5/16-14 and Schon (and Mezz) is undersized 5/16-14. Maybe the listened to me. The shaft fit absolutely perfectly to my Tascarella .

Sound

I think the medium tip might be too hard, as far as sound goes. The sound is in the Revo world.

Deflection

Low, but not as low as Revo. Which is good for me as my entire game is built off of backhand compensation (backhand English). Effective pivot point for my table conditions on non-swerve shots is around 12-13”, which is just a little longer than I like, but it’s close.

Summary

For me, this shaft is a winner. It fits my games, and it fits my Tascarella (and my Adam Balabushka bar beater). I had no problem getting used to it, unlike the Revo, Cynergy and a couple other CF shafts I own. No, it’s not New Shaft Syndrome. This one fits my game as far as cueball deflection and shaft taper is concerned. I wish they could make a 22mm joint to fit my Schuler, but I guess that’s asking too much.
