$1000 entry 564 and under finals

...56 players at $1000 a man. This would have never happened in a million years without FargoRate.
I (vaguely) remember years ago when Allen Hopkins tried to organize a Million Dollar tournament. $1000 to get in. I think 20 pros signed up and Corey Deuel won it. Hopkins was looking for a thousand players.

(Edit: it was $5k and 200 players, see below)

these big entry events are happening almost monthly somewhere in the US. yep, no Fargo and these wouldn't exist.

It was 5k a man, he was going for 200 players. He got 5-10. For some reason 6 sticks in my head. Corey beat Shane in the finals and won a bracelet engraved million dollar champion, or something like that.

It was during Hopkins attempt at a second, summer show.

I was there and remember it “mostly”.

Edit: it might have been 12 players. 11 plus Hopkins to make it an even number.

I think Manalo was in it too. Evan Broxemeyer was for sure.

I believe Corey got 20k for first.

Corey Deuel won it, IiRC. I think I was the finals commentator. Unless I missed the finals! lol!

Having it be mostly random Fargo limited #s is good, it's tough to know what level you'll be required to stay under. Under 600,700,500 seems much easier to manipulate , but If most of these types tournaments are random things like 564 628 e.t.c it should help eliminate suspicious rating management.

How is this 564 and under when multiple players in the video are 570+? What am I missing?

It was 564 and under at time of sign up and then they provided a 10point cushion if peoples ratings went up after sign up. So 574 was the max, if anyone raised above that they would be refunded. Makes sense to me assuming you have sign up a ways before the actual event.

They explain it at some point in that video

August of 2008. Results here: https://www.azbilliards.com/tournament/2312-allen-hopkins-million-dollar-shootout/?action=results

Four of them won more than the entry fee.

Yes, thanks to Fargo being so easy to manipulate a 650 speed player can easily sneak in as a 550
I watch players drop 50 points or more all the time

One of the more notorious ones used the salotto to play a 424 player and lost 6-10 when they’re rating was over a 100 points higher and underrated at that rating !
