This is actually the most significant thing I've ever heard out of Diamond. Capping the field at 400 each division, and adding an extra day, will make a very large impact, IMO.

I hope they follow through with both.

I’m hoping they don’t simply put 9 Ball finals on the last Sunday night. It’s nice to be done with it on Saturday and then check out/fly/drive in Sunday.

On the other hand….go all out. Change up everything. Championship Sunday. Get all rounds cleared up so you have one day to win the title or go home. Bank Pool at Noon. One Pocket at 3 pm. 9 Ball at 8pm.

Profit benefits: You want to sell a bunch of PPV, you got the entire story ready on hand. Raise the price just a tad for a single day so you can see it all remotely. You can start clearing out the ballroom and get more higher risers put in.

Casino Benefits: You now have more certainty of density and with some of the side tables gone, you can move in some drink stands. Some people may also travel for just one day so you may pick up some more day travelers.

History documenting benefits: Have a section on the side with official DCC back drops to do pre-match and post-match interviews that will be captured on the Accu-Stats official recording (like I see on some of the old matches). You have the broadcast cut away to a secondary large projection screen that is hung in the side table area showing the size of the crowd with day passes that try to see a good view of it.

Bragging Benefits: So you want to be master of the table? Run every division final as a gauntlet for one day (after a good night of sleep). The only downside is that bank pool would be twiddling their thumbs and paying the hotel bill if they only entered in one division…

Maybe just a pipe dream.

Wonderful news! Kudos to Diamond for realizing that the status quo just wasn't acceptable and for taking decisive action to avoid a repeat performance.

On them limiting the field sizes -- I'll believe it when I see it and I hope I don't see it.

Are they REALLY going to turn away a hundred or more players, when they already now have the cover of adding another day? Highly unlikely.

Yes, this will definitely be a "show me" moment, not a "promise me" moment.

Knowledge folks have been saying *for years and years* there are too many players for the number of tables they have available.

Stu, too many players not enough tables, is not some Einstein level insight.

After 25 years do you not have some small part of you saying: I'll believe it when I see it?

Would something this simple actually work?:

Split all the tourneys into 2 boards (or more).

Stagger the rounds between the boards. So you call all the first round matches for Board #1 and Board#2 is on deck. So Board #2 matches would already be underway while Board #1 is finishing up. Do that until you reach a manageable number of players to combine the boards. This would increase the table usage significantly it seems on the surface, I think 🤔 but I've only thought about it for 3 minutes.

If you buyback, you flip boards.

If they want to keep their system, maybe they could do something like this.

Also, if 10 slow players are holding up the draw for the next round, draw the round and the 10 slow players get stuck drawing among themselves afterwards.

Having all the finals in 1 day is a very cool thing that should be considered. I don't think it ever would be but it would add a cool element to each event imo. And would be good for spectators to know for certain when the finals will be. Could probably charge a hefty premium for the final day as well.

Considering how they constantly bend the "rules" for certain players(not even the top guys, which I would totally understand) whatever "maximum" number they pick will never be enough because the same guys will just wait til the day of the event to sign up and they will say yes to them cuz that's what they do every year. Add 10-15 to whatever max they say and you'll still be short of the final number.

Well that’s awfully generous of the casino to give them an extra day…not to many individuals or businesses pass up finding money on the floor 😂

Whoever wins MOT, Diamond needs to pay their way into the Bigfoot challenge the next year. If they don’t show the number 2 person goes in. They’re already saving money by not giving out an action award anymore so it more than evens out. Sure the MOT winner is already making a score but if for some reason they were absent it gives the runner up a little bonus.

The finals all on one day is not good for the fans that go there to play and watch, which I believe are the majority. When I go I usually enter the banks and one hole. I schedule my trip to be there long enough for the banks finals, but not long enough for the one pocket finals. Something like that. I can’t do all the days, I’d go crazy.

It also wouldn’t work for the top pros, because usually it’s the same group of players that reach the final day in each discipline.

I understand where you're coming from there and sympathize with it but I feel the benefits could outweigh the negatives. A guaranteed time for each final would be a massive win. And the players who might make multiple finals will all be much more rested on that final day than they are with the current setup. Sure, it will cost someone momentum BUT it's the same for both players that have to wait.

I too do the same, I play the banks and 1p. No 9ball for me.

I hear that….Here’s my viewpoint from 2023. The fans that only get single day tickets for the One Pocket finals (either PPV or in person) expected Thursday 8pm and got Saturday 9pm. So they got nothing close. I talked to so many of the people who got TV table seats to watch only later round one pocket. A day set aside is better than the flexible nature it is now.

Not sure about your last paragraph. The idea is to only have the finals on the final day. And 10 hours of pool for someone on a full night of sleep is always going to be better pool than 24 hours non stop.

If they reduce the number of entries to get the main divisions moving along, I would hazard to guess that the people signing up are trying to win out and not do it for fun. Here’s a possibility for those amateur players that probably keeps them around for more days…They could close out tournament play earlier every night and then do additional mini tournaments at night. It’s all about utilizing the tables as much as you can.
