What a tool!!!

I hope most of us would generally agree that:

1) She should have called the combination.
2) Hoang should not have called the infraction on her.
3) Her parents should not have gone off on Hoang to the extent they did on camera after the match, regardless of how they felt.
4) When posting the video on Savannah’s Facebook page, they should have ended the video at the completion of the match, before her parents made the extremely unsavory statements to Hoang.

5) if you're a massive nit, try not to display your nittiness when playing against social media phenoms / pool influencers who streams all their matches and have legions of fans

If that was my daughter, I would have reacted the exact same way. I have no regrets in saying this.

This is indeed a competition.

However, what is competition without compassion and understanding? A war? These people aren't warriors trying to kill each other, and they do not need to win at all costs in order to establish the survival of their people based on geographical resources.

It is a competition of people who enjoy the same hobby, and winner gets a trophy/cash. But mostly it is people coming together to do what gives them joy. War is not joy. Furthermore, the circumstances of this paticular situation is that one competitor is a young girl... which as a society we naturally have more empathy for... and also she is clearly an enthusiast in pool which we should all be collectively championing.

Dog eat dog world is a spiritless mentality that puts your own ego first, and minimizes your own suffering on behalf of others.

The pool world is no different. Whom is our most celebrated champion of the sport, and was he someone who lacked or had an excess of humility?
I was rooting for her and thought she was the bright star in a dark industry.

Anyways, I hope she learns from it.

I have always said, all pool players are scumbags and they all have the bozo gene. Its a matter of time when it comes out. When the ugliness or bozo-ness come out. It usually doesn't come out at work or home but always in a pool room or on a pool table.

No but there is basically nothing anyone can do about it.

If she called the shot then it wouldn't happen right?

This is a pool tournament where players have probably plunked down hundreds or thousands of dollars just to break even. It is what it is.

Lesson learned for her. The positive is she will never make this error again. Look at it from this perspective.
I know and similar happened to me many times.
Many tournaments if I am against junior player and they make some move I could nitpick. I tell them "could call foul there if i wanted because rules say this. I just wanted to point this so when and if you enter international tournament there are guys who will do this. and now after I gave this fair warning to you don´t do it another time this game or I call foul."

So many wrong steps here.

She should have called the combo in a tournament.

Hoang was an absolute nit for calling that foul. If you want to be a super stickler about the rules like that, okay, but make it clear in advance or give your opponent at least one warning the first time it happens. If it happens again then I'm fine with it being called.

The parents reaction at the end was bad...but the decision to post it with the reaction included is really questionable behavior in my opinion. There are things said in the heat of a moment, I get that, but to think it's the right move to post the video with them included...yikes.

About the only thing I agree with is her decision not to shake hands. He didn't deserve her respect at the end and he should be ashamed at getting a win the way he did, I would be.

I didn't even know she was a social media influencer and some can question her and the parents' motives.

Was it done on purpose to not call the shot?

Did she get over a million views for this?

I agree. Also, I hate the "picking on a little girl" narrative. Savannah has more games in fargo than most of us, and she's a legit touring professional nowadays. She should know better than to not at least say "three ball" before pulling the trigger. I bet she learns from this.

I also think the guy is a jackass for calling the technicality, but she did leave that door open for him.

Maybe you need to get out more or frequent better establishments. I have enjoyed this game for many decades and found the "scumbags" to be in a very small minority. To say all pool players are scumbags is inaccurate, and insulting to the many true gentlemen who participate in this game at any level.

But she IS a little girl! She's only 14! What were you doing when you are her age?

Of course she should have called the combo shot, obvious or not. Nonetheless Hoang should have let it go with a reminder of the rules to Savannah.
But sadly it ended ugly because of two bad decisions..

Like Joey Tate she will likely never make that mistake again!

Hoang was an ass and that’s the bottom line..

I've met her parents twice at events here, and quite honestly I encountered nothing but a favorable impression of them while she was playing. They reallyseemed to take a hands off approach while she was playing.

I’m sure their comments to Hoang at the completion of the match was just a heat of the moment emotional and impulsive reaction on their part, and something they likely regret.

Particularly in light of the entire internet pool world having soon seen/heard the video, which was also a regrettable decision on their part to post it online, if they indeed were the ones that filmed the video. These days it is entirely possible they shared the video with someone, who then posted it without their knowledge or consent.

Her mom always videos her matches, or at least did when I was there.
Funny thing, I had a vip pass and was sitting right by their camera. Decided to get up and move to watch another match. The table was pretty shaky and I bumped a table leg getting up and the phone and stand it was on started to fall.
I caught it and was embarrased but her mom never said a word. Just came over, smiled, and reset it.

Some could actually view this incident as a sign of respect that Huang showed towards Savannah and her strong game.

He realized early in this match that this young lady was playing good enough to beat him it, so just like if he was playing anyone else in the field, he was going to do whatever he had to do to win this match, no disrespect towards her.

Possibly in his mind, giving her a pass could be interpreted as being more disrespectful to her game, and that this was a lesson she needed to learn from, sooner rather than later.

I personally thought it was nitty....but...
In the Dunn post several well known pros said in that situation they would have lied, said they called it and kept on shooting. I guess thats how they won their BCA titles.. So they choose to lie and cheat and post it publicly while calling him a low life nit out of the side of there mouths...lol Her own mom posted his info so he would be put on blast.. lots of revenge threats to his saftey. What message is that sending to our young players.. let's see, pick the rules you like, and if you don't like them lie and cheat to get out of them and put them on blast for revenge....lol. Great message to our youth.

If you don't think SVB and some other pros wouldn't call the same thing on her your way wrong...
Where this guy is from they are taught to play by the rules. They don't pick and choose. Sportsmanship doesn't enter into it. Just the rules..
Savanah didn't lie or cheat. I think that young lady taught all these clowns a valuable lesson. She didn't lie to win. Huge fan.
