Another Farorate thread

Not really. I’m saying the games could stay in the system. But it also works backwards sometimes too. In my case I have 450 games in the system. 150 of those are against my buddy. He only has 50 other games in the system. So now he doesn’t play for 2 years and I go up to 600. He’s going up to 550 without playing. Now he gets back into it after those two years and now he’s gotta play tournaments at 550 Fargo., when he’s a 450.

So in that case why can’t he get his rate reset?

With so few games in the system, every game he plays going forward will have a more dramatic impact on his rating.

It will adjust quickly.

Regardless, unless the tournaments he plays are handicapped by Fargo rate, his rating will have no impact whatsoever.

Except that it might temporarily limit his entry into some lower level tournaments.

This comes up quite a lot...results that are 2 years old should carry a low weight Imo and so if that is true he should expect new results to have a high weight in adjusting his rating, but not quickly enough for his liking is my guess.

If your buddy has 150 out of 200 games with you, he should go up/down when you do. Do you think the 150 games you two played together were not representative of each other's play?

Also, how did you two get 150 games together 2 years ago? Was that from Salotto? I didn't know it was around then.

If you want to compete, need to stay sharp. His rating will adjust. How do you know he is a 450? If he is a 450 then he is a 450 in Fargo. If you just feel he should be a 450 that is not good enough. Or are you saying he was a 450 and went up 100 points through movement of everyone he is linked to?

If opinions could affect FargoRate, the whole system would be tainted.

I would certainly hope not!

That would pretty much defeat the whole premise of an impartial, honest comparative performance/handicap system...
I would assume that European players could opt to do this under their data privacy laws, although I'm not sure what data Fargorate captures from its users.

He's just going to have to deal with it. I've had to do the same. I got back into a few years ago, played 4-5 times a week, practiced every day on my home table, quit when I had about 220-230 games in the system. When I quit I was around 610'sh and still climbing. After two+ years of not playing my FR topped out around 622. There's no way I play at that level now and I can't play in any of the <600 FR tournaments.

It is what it is.

Also, more than likely, he was improving during those games with you so as the older games drop off the games that remain are the one's he was doing better at. I figure that had more to do with my FR going up after I quit than anything else. I improved fairly quick once I really started practicing so the last year I played was better than the previous and that last year is what was giving my rating a boost.

Depending on how long they keep their data. I was in the APA about 20 years ago. I checked about 5 years ago and i had data in the system. I checked a few months ago and i don't exist.

Just a hunch but I'd guess his "friend" is actually him since he's argued that his Fargo is way off.

i think you have to ask the FARO.......😂

They revamped their system about 2 years ago, and now you can only view data from your current region. It was nice to be able to see my own stats and teams from where I used to live, but now they've blocked all that info (which is stupid IMO).

So your data still exists, you just cannot see it.

Oh shit. Guess you can tell how much I care.😂.

No. That is a true reference. I’m actually upset that he hasn’t played anything Fargorated because my rate should go up a bit if he does.

But in all reality starting somebody over would have zero effect on the system. The old scores would still be saved as an opponent with whatever Fargorate they had. So if I was a 400 when was reset. All those matches I played would be listed for whoever played me as they played a 400.

The reset would be just starting over with a preliminary rate. The new matches would have no effect on the old matches. And the old matches would still be entered for the other players.

I know one way around it but Mike comes on here so…..lol

And yes, I am kind of mad that my rate is so low. Gotta stop that drinking. I asked a 620 the other day. All I said was “I gotta be at least a 500. I don’t know what’s going on with my fargorate.” He said you’re closer to 600. So it’s not just me. Too bad I can’t input all my money games. I do have some of them recorded…….lolol

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are saying your friend's fargorate at the time he played you affects what your rating is today. That's not true. Ever night when the fargorates are recalculated, (for everyone), the rating itself is not used in the calculation. All that is used is wins/losses. So if he was 1000 when you played, and beat you like a drum, or he was 100 when you played him, and beat you the same amount, both your ratings would still be the same today. Only wins and losses matter.
