2024 World Snooker Championship (Apr 20th - May 6th)

From what I've watched so far I'd say Ronnie, Judd, and Kyren are the front runners. Some might throw in Allen or Higgins but they haven't really shown me much. I'd rather take Murphy or Maguire over them.

agree. trump probably best form. but re higgins and allen, they are known to be able to weather bad days and get stronger. maguire and murphy are the opposite of that - on/off players

I'm rooting for Ronnie to make history, but John Higgins is due for a big win. He seems to rise to the top quite often and just can't finish it with a win.

Nice start to the session for Ronnie who had breaks of 123, 84, 83, 51, and 92 to take a 5-3 lead. Ryan Day having some moments as well though, and might not go down so easily.

There were two shots Ronnie fired in at 2-2 that I didn't think would be possible on these tables.

I woke up and tuned in at the 2-2 score. The long shot with object ball so near the side rail was incredible. Going into such a small pocket at high speed didn't seem possible. Pretty amazing that Ronnie would take it on. Even more amazing that he made it. 🤷‍♂️
The degree of precision that Ronnie brought this morning was at times breath taking. It will be interesting to see how the second session goes later today.

The shots that Ronnie and Trump pocket and the position they are able to execute is phenomenal. I remember a Rocket match where he was on fire and from the balk cushion fired a ball that was resting just past the side a 1/4" of the rail into the end corner pocket. Even he was amazed.

After the frame is won both Trump and Ronnie sometimes play some amazing shots. Trumps power is unbelievable.

The two matches going now are providing lots of missed shots. Lisowski vs Bingham and Allen vs Higgins are playing out as dog fights. All 4 are unsettled so far nearing mid session.

"A man's gotta' know his limitations. " Is a favorite quote if mine. Might have been Dirty Harry. Fits Jack Lisowski and the scathing comments regarding him using "the opposite hand". Can't fault him for aspiring. 🤷‍♂️ It's a long ways to 13. Ronnie coming up next is tantalizing. Should be a good show.
Come on Jack settle down.

Story time:
Jack Lisowski so reminds me of Shawn Anderson from Bellevue WA back in the '80s.
Shawn was the top player in the East Side League for many years. The first year I played, Shawn sat out and I was the lead off on the ringer team he played as a sub on. A funny tournament, single elimination for the money at the end.
I got top player that year. 🤷‍♂️ okay enough brag. The relevant part is. Shawn offered the 8 and I wanted the 7 to play 9 ball. He always barked at me at The Seed 2. I was making money and he couldn't get played. 🤷‍♂️. He had Lisowski's off handed game. I had Ronnie's. I got his race track winnings. .. about 240 I think. Shrug 🤷‍♂️.

the fact that 3 players out there today is almost 50 years and still playing high level snooker is crazy impressive, win or lose. bingham had a nice session yesterday and higgins is holding his own against allen. massive respect for these old craftsmen..

Mark Allen is ready now.
The physical conditioning is a big factor in this event. And as Yogi said, "half the game is 80 percent mental."
Ronnie appears to be in top form. This afternoon figures to put his best strategy on display.
Looks like I have time for breakfast. 😉

Letting their strokes out sends a message to the opponent and keeps themselves sharp

In theory the schedule of matches -- I wanted to know when O'Sullivan-Day would resume -- is on the World Snooker Tour site, wst.tv.

Nope. It just says "To Be Continued". I had to do a google search to find out that they resume at 1PM Monday, UK time. Someone is not paying attention there. From The Independent:

it's a lot better than it was a year ago. the old site was a train wreck

"Getting the job done without any stress." Is the comment as Ronnie finished off Ryan Day.
Conservation is important in a marathon. At the quarter final bracket leaves a ways to go yet. Lisowski and Bingham play next to see who Ronnie plays. With Bingham ahead 9-7 it should be a good one.
