While yes the bad optics is MRs issue and black eye. I don't know if I'd agree that location is everything you're making it out to be. Even the finals of the USopen last year had empty seats. ..not many mind you, but definitely there.

Reality here is live viewing isn't what drives revenue. Sure they might be taking a decent bite out of their set up costs with the gate. However I'm willing to bet the luxurious seating we see in the promo shots is more about presenting an image then a means to entice ticket sales.

Some empty seats are due to how the venue is planned out and operated. If you get a beer, you only get back to your seat in between racks.

Also there are day passes for the day, so for semis and finals. Some will miss beginnings of a match,...

Damn are we going to see a Kaci/Szewczyk final? Last time they met up in a final, or was it a semi final, of the world 10 ball Kaci lost and got super salty, went online and said he got lucky, talked. A lot of crap.

It's year one for this event in its new location, hopefully interest in the sport will grow in Saudi Arabia. Yes, the empty seats are a bit distressing, but pool's business model can hold up with or without live attendance. Still, whether it is pool or any other sport, it is hard to view an event as important if nobody attends.

This has been a wonderful match so far. Both players have been called on to play some tough shots and some tough safeties ad have, as a rule, been up to it. I guess that's why they are both in contention for the title!

That wasn't the case at the USopen. I was in attendance and the seats were assigned. At least not what im speaking about. Several empty seats throughout semis and finals.

surely there's local pool fans they could give free tickets to. Seats should be filled. i miss the old US Open crowds that were packed and people were yelling in between games. i don't like these sterile atmosphere events.
