Measle ball should not be used during matches

its not a training ball. It was never meant to be a training ball. It came originally with the tv balls so you could see how the ball was spinning from the spectator chair. So what you say makes no sense.

I think it’s a crutch for most players. They can’t play with blanks. They don’t know if they hit the ball correctly or not.

We have them at my pool hall but you have to ask. I was in line paying and had some guy waiting behind me ready to trade out the ball with the bartender. Apparently he followed me. Geez.

I switch back and forth and prefer playing with blanks for money but my opponents will automatically ask to swap it before we even start.

When the heck did it became the default ball.

I get more joy not seeing the cue ball spin and seeing it do exactly what I want. I don’t like to see it spin or show my hand.

Not completely blank. It has the little red circle. lol. Not filled in for a reason. Perhaps the measle was made for TV.

I like it. The spots add a visual element and also give away the opposition if you're so interested. I got red, blue, and green ones from China. Came out around 20 bucks. The blue one's slightly smaller but the weights are close enough. They lack in durability but I bring the red one along for private tables.

as explained to you already, not a training ball, made for tv viewing

Mine are all counterfeit. Except for the undersized one they weigh enough and play like a proper rock.

It's also for officials so they can better see when to start the shot clock.

Aesthetically: cue ball should either have no dots or 6 dots. Hate the CBs that only have the single red dot. Just distracting.

Don't you think that the reaction of the cue ball will also tell your opponent how you hit the cue ball? In fact I would wager to bet that there is more to be learned from watching cue ball action vs watching some dots.

yes
but on a stop shot its hard to see unintentional spin on a cueball with no spots

You're 25 years late.

I've played with tons of cosmetic variations of balls. I even have a Disney Mickey Mouse ball set made by Aramith. Any markings completey disappear after about .1 seconds. It's a non-issue.

I think the measle ball is the most important advance in training in the last twenty years. For a player, the feedback provided is valuable. For a fan watching pro pool, seeing what stroke has been applied offers greater insight into the play.

When neither fans nor instructors are around, it matters less and if you enjoy the game more with another cue ball, go ahead and use it.
