On the TV table they had a timekeeper handling it. There definitely was some clock managing when one person was well out ahead, especially when it was one of the Brits that was leading. This format has been in place in GB for some time now, so they are more aware of the strategic facets of the format. However, when the match clock gets to 10 minutes left, the shot clock goes to 15 second intervals, so there is less opportunity for time killing. The more seasoned players definitely use nearly all of the 15 seconds when they are ahead, though.

When the shot clock goes to 15 seconds it's interesting to see the changes that happen in a player's effectiveness. Some falter, as you would expect. But some others seem to surprisingly thrive on it. Also, the shot interval becomes irrelevant when the clock gets down to just a few minutes and the shooter is down by a couple games. More than once I saw lower level players who struggled to get out during the 30-second intervals suddenly become ball-making machines when they knew they needed to win two games in less than 3 minutes. Not having the luxury to overthink things made them shoot more on instinct and that helped a few of them.
 
I found a link to the stream, Not live though it was already over when i got home at 5:00 ??? I heard one of the dudes commentating say that you can win or loose on the break. You can loose on the break? I did not hear an explanation of how you could possibly loose a game of "pool" on the break. Does anyone know how they determine this? Also you don't have to call the eight? and they are tying to standardizes this... In AMERICA. REALLY! slop eight ball.
Are they kidding? I'm finding this kind of hard to watch honestly. And the advertisements say Sept. 13 thru 25. what I see it looks like a weekend worth of matches. is there more to this?

So just to be clear did I hear them correctly regarding their 8 ball rules?
1. you can loose on the break
2. the 8 ball is a slop shot , no need to call it
3. No defense or instant loss of game
4. This bastardized version of 8 ball is what they hope to "standardize" Here in the U.S.A

I play all games in many arenas. As long as I understand the rules I am good. Our game has been bastardized for many generations so when a tourney comes to my region, I will take what ever they offer.
Denver is a dry town for the pro scene. So I am thrilled to be able to watch a little of this with my youngest Son tomorrow.

I am old so I get what you are saying jayman, but for me I am just thrilled to have an event close to me.

1) 8 made on the break spots.

The interesting thing about that is if you don’t make another ball along with the eight, you lose your turn.

2) Don’t have to call anything, just hit your group first.

3) You can play safe.

4) I sure hope this doesn’t become standardized!!

The 15 second shot clock is silly, especially with the giant 5 4 3 2 1 countdown constantly flashing in the back of the shot. 30 seconds would be fine.

I haven't read these rules but the old rules that called 8 on the Break a winner made the 8 on the Break and scratch a loss.

Playing it for the first time today/Denver. Here's a couple newbies.
8 ball racks on the spot.
Balls have to be racked in the same pattern each break.
Also, you don't have to call any shots & if it goes into another pocket I think it's still your shot???
Also and nothing to do with the rules, my opponent would remove my chalk that I left on the top rail and hand it too me, his quirk.

Wrong.... but the 8 on the break is a winner.
But now I wanna know, if you make the 8 and scratch do you lose, humm.
I'll try and find out manana.

I didn't see any Bas-turd Size people :)

The chalk thing isn't a quirk, it is the way it is done these days and it does make sense.
