Why, does it bother You?

Bill - in jimmys prime that you mentioned - was he playing the top top speed? No One is scoffing at this idea!
He just doesn't have the 'Merit' other choices for inductee's have!
Jimmy didn't have 'Longevity' as a Top player!
The Best pool He played was when He was very young, (19-25).
At that time, 'Straight-Pool' was His Best game, when that faded out it became 9 ball!
Jimmy had a Big/Certain personality, which helped very often and hurt Him in many others!
He also had, (which many of us do) Demons He had to overcome, which came much later in Life for Jimmy!
I liked and was friends with Jimmy for Decades! He used to come to Chicago for years, He loved to go to Cubs games.
Not really.Bill - in jimmys prime that you mentioned - was he playing the top top speed?
I saw jimmy play Dave Bollman giving him the seven on a gc 9 ft around 1985. Played maybe 24 hours straight. Basically even. Jimmy played a ball to ball and a half under those guys imo but he was crazy fun to watch unlike todays robotic playersThank you for the response - would you say all those guys - sigel, varner, hall, rempe, reyes, strickland - had significantly more speed? or could jimmy beat them in his prime?
Good lord it drives me crazy!I can see them better!
Why, does it bother You?
Put some very dark 'Sunglasses' on, it bother You that much!Good lord it drives me crazy!
Keep up the good work, lol.
Yes, they all had more speed than Jimmy.Thank you for the response - would you say all those guys - sigel, varner, hall, rempe, reyes, strickland - had significantly more speed? or could jimmy beat them in his prime?
I saw him play. He played good. Slightly under the sigel varner hall Strickland bunch. But he did have a gear.Theres no angle, im not sure why everyone is seeming to get annoyed at this topic. Im simply trying to get a sense of how good of a player he was. Im not intending to lead his HOF charge.
I agree. Jimmy would not win getting the eight from any of those guys. But they might not like it giving him the sevenNot really.
Like I said, His best playing days were when he was younger.
The Best players playing 9 ball, Buddy Hall, Steve Mizerak, Nick Varner, Johnny Archer, Billy Incardona, Wade Crane, Jimmy Marino, Cornbread Red...
could all give Jimmy the (8) for sure!
Jimmy was a 'Personality' He had a lot of 'Style/Dress/Manner/Smooth Talking/Intimidating at the table.I agree. Jimmy would not win getting the eight from any of those guys. But they might not like it giving him the seven
Very true and well said. I enjoyed being around him a lot as a twenty year old one dollar ring game player that might make five balls in a row. That was before the internet so getting to see good players was rare for meJimmy was a 'Personality' He had a lot of 'Style/Dress/Manner/Smooth Talking/Intimidating at the table.
You think they do’t have to gamble now? How many pro players today do you think can make a living with their tournament winnings? You had to gamble back then since tourneys paid shit in most cases.
I think the HOF in every sport (At least NBA, MLB, NFL) induct some that I don’t think belong and some or left off that should be in. I can go right down the list. Sometimes it‘s a popularity contest, politics… pool is absolutely no different. Pro Bowl, all star games are an example of popularity contest that not always based on playing ability. If you are in a big city you have a better chance of making it. Which in turn increases your chance of making the HOF.I'd like to see him in the HOF. I'm different though. I don't care as much about how many titles someone has. I think a Hall of FAME should include the most famous people. Whether he created that fame with his mouth or his cue, he's one of the best parts about that era IMO. I doubt he'll get there with the current standards, and that's fine with me too.
True, but I think he's more famous for marrying Eva than anything else. Man, she was hot.not a HOF candidate. you don't get in on 'personality'. his record talks for itself. his only big win was the '72 stardust. jim could flat play but so could a bunch of others his speed. he's WAY more known for runnin his piehole than using a cue.
is hotTrue, but I think he's more famous for marrying Eva than anything else. Man, she was hot.
Maybe it’s because I’m old but she has aged amazingly well and is still the striking Viking to me.True, but I think he's more famous for marrying Eva than anything else. Man, she was hot.
I like your passion.Do you think hes a worthy nominee? The point of this thread was to get more of peoples opinion of him as a player and overall contributions. Seems like alot of anti floydsters here!
