Elbow Drop - Billiards Digest October 2024

Bill doesn't like any other 3 cushion players getting any love. Semih introduced a lot of us pool players to 3 cushion and what could be done on a billiard table. I've never heard anything but praise regarding his exhibitions.
He was a Top 3C player, with No class!

He has a 'Powerful' stroke!

But, Now there are several better at 3C Artistic.

When I beat him in that tournament in 98 he wouldn't even shake my hand after the match!

In fact I had him 'Dogging' it so much he actually went up to the table on one of the shots and just 'Shoved' the CB with one hand!

He had No heart!

Here's how the Turk handles a 'Loss'!

BTW, notice No handshake for Sang either!

So, You think a '2' Follow-thru' is the Norm?

I'd like to hear the 'Accuracy stats' of that 2' follow-thru compared to 8-12"!
There are plenty of great players with brief follow throughs. Especially guys who don't drop the elbow from a low stance...they just run out of room and complete the stroke just through the CB. Same stroke in a higher stance would go farther through .

Look no further than fantastic shot makers like SVB,Shaw, and Filler for examples of snipers with short follow thru. Hell, Earl is one of the greatest shot makers ever and he barely gets more than his ferrule through the ball with an elbow drop.

Reaching some arbitrary follow through distance doesn't matter nearly as much as completing the stroke. Guys in low stances and those who don't drop elbows complete strokes sooner and there's nothing wrong with that.

The hand goes up. Tip goes down.
i couldnt post @Patrick Johnson reply to my comment or his diagram on this page
of course its the hand that makes the "tip dip" as patrick said in spite of the hand going up by getting ulnar deviation in the wrist
with a "J" stroke you can keep the hand more level but at the expense of some elbow drop.
any way you can get the cue to go straight thru the cue ball for that magic distance (just before and after) contact good things should happen especially with the right timing and tempo

Bill,
We all due respect this video actually proves the opposite of what you were hoping for. It shows the man's strong moral character. After the loss he was so disgusted that he punched himself. But before doing so, and while so full of anger, he managed to shake the hands of many spectators, signed a couple of autographs, and exchanged a few kind words with an elderly gentleman.

If only we could all treat our fellow man this way when we are at our worst.

But, Defiant against the Better player!

You're certainly entitled to see it that way. As a top player competing for almost 60 years, I know when I see a weak nature in players.

I look at the end result. If you’re making balls and getting on the angle for the next ball consistently then it’s the right stroke for you
True but there are def levels to consistency. As the bar gets raised higher and higher, the delivery has to be more and more pure and repeatable.

Tweaks can be tiny. A stroke can be very good and consistent and yet doing something as simple as lengthening the time it takes to pull the cue back and transition by a few tenths of a second can make a small yet significant difference in level of consistency. Same stroke. Same right fit for the person. Just a touch more repeatable due to a cleaner transition.

I'm going to show You a video from 1983.

A Non Heated Brunswick Anniversary 3C table.

The cloth was Simonis, (3 months old) K55 rubber.

Myself, playing 3C 'Trick shots' which require a 'Stroke'!

Notice I do Not contact the CB with 'Visible' force.

Great video, love the music!

If he says he did not hand shake he either... I don´t think that can be out of picture. I also seen Semih doing little questionable things in couple matches i have been seen. I was stunned. I thought he is gentleman but after those matches I was not so sure about that..

Does anyone detect possible racist or religious intolerance leanings in his behavior?? Just curious.
