I just recently learned that Finland gave up land to Russia in the 40's. Russia continues to be a world problem.I am from Finland and we don´t have many veterans left alive because last war was WW2. Last week I had one to drive for his home. He was 102 years old and blind. Finland provides 18 trips per month free with taxi to veterans.
Without them we would be part of Russia!
So we are and always been grateful to defenders of our country!
Hear, hear...Thanks to all of my fellow Vets today and always!
Like you, I was in the Army from 67-70 and was very fortunate not to have served in Vietnam. Friends I knew from Highschool that ended up there, when they returned, or should I say if they returned, were really messed up. I was supposed to go twice to Nam, but in typical military fashion, things changed shortly before going and I spent the majority of my time in Germany. You're not alone in those feelings of guilt when you are thanked for your service. It's misguided guilt really, as you served and would have gone if asked.Thank You to everyone for your kind words. I was in the Army from 1974-1977 so I thankfully missed Vietnam. Sometimes I feel guilty when people thank me for my service because I was not in a war or shot at, although that could have happened at any time. Looking back, the Army was good for me. It allowed me time to mature and gave me skills that I needed in life, and the G.I. bill that I used for my Aviation career.
Thank You to my fellow Veterans, especially the ones that were wounded or lost their lives. I also thank the families and loved ones for their sacrifice.
My grandfather was stationed in Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. My dad served in the army of occupation in Japan. He was getting ready to ship out for invasion til Harry dropped the big firecrackers. Thanks vets for all you did and continue to do.
