Veterans...Thank you~!

All that anyone who questions what this country is truly worth must do for an answer is look to the selfless sacrifice made by our veterans. It is truly humbling to realize what so many have given, are giving, will give. Freedom is never free.
Thank you to each and every one of you.

So many words flood my mind when assessing what we owe our Veterans. My struggle with these words is compounded by the enormity and complexity of our debt. Ultimately, words fail me because ours is a burden that we can never fully satisfy. It is a debt without end, that evokes words without end. Hu provides us a good start, however -- Respect and Honor.

I am from Finland and we don´t have many veterans left alive because last war was WW2. Last week I had one to drive for his home. He was 102 years old and blind. Finland provides 18 trips per month free with taxi to veterans.
Without them we would be part of Russia!
So we are and always been grateful to defenders of our country!

I just recently learned that Finland gave up land to Russia in the 40's. Russia continues to be a world problem.

Thank You to everyone for your kind words. I was in the Army from 1974-1977 so I thankfully missed Vietnam. Sometimes I feel guilty when people thank me for my service because I was not in a war or shot at, although that could have happened at any time. Looking back, the Army was good for me. It allowed me time to mature and gave me skills that I needed in life, and the G.I. bill that I used for my Aviation career.

Thank You to my fellow Veterans, especially the ones that were wounded or lost their lives. I also thank the families and loved ones for their sacrifice.

Like you, I was in the Army from 67-70 and was very fortunate not to have served in Vietnam. Friends I knew from Highschool that ended up there, when they returned, or should I say if they returned, were really messed up. I was supposed to go twice to Nam, but in typical military fashion, things changed shortly before going and I spent the majority of my time in Germany. You're not alone in those feelings of guilt when you are thanked for your service. It's misguided guilt really, as you served and would have gone if asked.
Anyway, it's really good to see the respect and care given to all past and present service members. I may go to town today for lunch at Texas Roadhouse as they have a great Veterans day there and the wife has been away visiting family so I'm tired of sitting home alone. It's really nice there, crowded, but they just sit you with anyone that has a open seat at their table for this day.

Both grandfathers, two uncles, my father, several other relatives dating back to the Civil War, and I, all served. My grandfather was wounded in WWI. My cousin's son is currently in the Army. Everyone was in the Army, except me. I was in the Navy. :) No one encouraged me to join. It was just something I wanted to do.
