Mosconi Cup 2024, Nov. 30-Dec. 3, Orlando

Was just thinking about this on Friday: I was at Jimmy's and a pair of siblings were playing at a table by me (actually playing, not goofing off). The younger was barely taller than the table . Rare, but really cool to see.(y)(y)
Did you have your wallet when you left?

TicketMaster

A final observation about the MC. The tickets are handled by Ticketmaster in the US. Considering how large they are here, you'd think they would have a more convenient, functional website. A couple of times, they refused to let me log in to view my tickets until I had cleared cookies or some such. They charge roughly 20% service charge on each ticket. The tickets go to your phone, usually.

I ended up selling three of my four tickets, and got back roughly what I paid for them, but I only marked them up a little. Ticketmaster provides a way to sell them on their site at a price you choose or you can assign them to "friends". If you sell them on TM, they charge you 15% of your sale price and of course they charge the buyer the usual 20%. Seems like a monopolistic scam to me. (I don't know if they charge for a transfer to a "friend".)

I was not able to sell my ticket for the final day because Matchroom did not permit the resale for that day. I suppose this was to avoid a problem on the off chance that there was no fourth day.

Matchroom uses a different ticket handler in the UK.

The Mosconi Cup is modeled after the Ryder Cup-

FYI: there’s 44 countries in Europe and 50 states in America.
So, you’re saying in all 50 states, we don’t have enough strong players, but out of 44 countries (view them as states which comprise the European Union) there are more strong players?
You yourself said 44 COUNTRIES, and 50 STATES. See the difference? Are you saying that each of our STATES are equal to their COUNTRIES? I never commented on STRONG PLAYERS, that's not the point. I am asking why it is a country vs a continent? Why not North America vs Europe? Please don't attempt to hijack to narrative and make it something that it is not. And lastly, if you live, work, and raise a family in the US, you should play for the US. That is the very start of the way you can say thank you!!!!

It’s modeled after the Ryder Cup as per Barry Hearn’s own definition .

So, your issue is with Shaw playing for Scotland as opposed to USA?

That is the very start of the way you can say thank you!!!!

Perhaps take it up with Shaw, Frazer & Hearn

jayson had his team play on new cloth with silicon on the balls to imitate the MC table. those kind of tricks in preparation (heated table is another) may be worth a point or two. the match table was crazy fast
Interesting. Where were they practicing?

I have the same issue with the Olympics. You have a sprinter from Jamaica, goes to USC, trains, gets an education. makes a great living, marries American, raises a family here, even votes here, However, every 4 years says. "I am Jamaican. That's who I represent!!!". Then make Jamaica your HOME!!

Unfortunately, that’s Matchroom’s prerogative.🤷🏻‍♀️

Usually in any world level athletics, you have to serve a mandarory hiatus when changing nationalities. With track & fields I think it might be as long as two years when you are not allowed to compete. MR made a different choice because it’s their event and their rules.

Johan Ruysink has revealed that he had an agreement with Team USA to train them for the Mosconi Cup.

Matchroom turned it down and said Johan wasn't needed. They blocked Johan from visiting the practice room at the Mosconi.

I suspect Matchroom will be begging Johan to come back next year, the Mosconi Cup will be dead if this one-sided beatdown carries on for a few more years.

Why do you believe this? MR gave Johan the boot, after he coached the States to two consecutive victories. Do you think MR wants the States to win? Laughable!

I listened to the podcast last night. There were so many wisdom nuggets shared in this one. I enjoyed it 100 percent.

Matchroom Pool has made decisions that are incomphrehensible in recent times. I'm not going to trash them because I did enjoy some of the events, especially in 2023, e.g., Spain and Poland. And both Hanoi events were off the charts. I feel like I've traveled the world on the backs of our pool pros, and I appreciate Matchroom Pool allowing me to hitchike on their train like a hobo. I finally refused to take a ride on the DAZN, as have so many others.

The offer of DAZN to Americans for watching their exhibitions and tournaments is a slap in the face. They knew what DAZN was doing to its consumers, patrons, pool fans, and yet remained radio silent about it, even when it was brought to their attention tens of thousands of times. It was only when DAZN made front-page news about their predatory methods that Matchroom Pool did something about it. WNT.tv was born, and that's great news, I think, to pool fans everywhere. Worthy of note, however, is the wonderful experience I had on Matchroom.live for snooker and pool. WNT.tv is going to replace it, and I hope it's just as good, if not better.

Their cryptic one-line announcements, ones that leave pool fans not understanding why, however, is disconcerting. I'll leave that one alone because we all know who and what I'm talking about.

Coach Johan's take on professional pool, especially as it pertains to USA, is right on the money. The big elephant in the room, however, is why the BCA organization continues to feed its industry members and has discarded professional pool like trash. It speaks volumes. Hall of Fame banquets are great, but this is the Northern American governing body of cue sports. What's up with that?

Pool in USA is alive and well for social shooters, recreational players, and leagues, but the lot of professional-caliber pool players continues to dwindle and is literally circling the drain. There are less than 10 pro-caliber players in USA, in my opinion. How many pro-caliber players are in Europe? We all know the answer here. Now, there are some remarkable juniors in USA, and this is, most definitely, an area that needs more growth, as Coach Johan wisely noted. Hello, BCA! Remember us?

Matchroom Pool can take their ball and run with it. I will never bend the knee and be a brown nose, like some are wont to doing, just because they're holding the ball. Grey cloth, purple 5 balls, cryptic line-liner announcements, cheeky replies to America;s fourt estate, it's definitely not my cuppa, innit? Word!
A voice of reason in a time of buttermilk minds, thank you Jennie. Many here laud MR, I’ll never be one of them. All the things you mention ring true, not to mention the crap Rasson tables and English announcers unfamiliar with pool vernacular Queen Emily introduced. I believe MR should have put a “pool person” in the top spot, not a marketing hack.

Maybe MR will go away and Americans can go back to playing in $20 - $100 tournaments in bars on barboxes.

It really makes no sense for them to hold events in the USA anyway, we have 2 players than can compete on the world stage, whereas Europe and Asia dominate the pro pool scene.

Why make people travel here, face it, pools future isn't in the USA, time to let go of the past

Why is the Mosconi Cup the USA (a country) vs Europe (a continent). Pool is more popular in Europe than the US. Why isn't it country vs country? Thoughts........
Basically, geographically, they are both about the same size with respect to land mass. Europe being just 40,340 square miles larger. Would be kind of strange if, say, Germany only played the USA. In contrast, that would be like Europe playing Florida.
On a completely different note, I was there. It was an experience I won't soon forget (and neither will Team USA) but loved the energy. Shaw and FSR total surgeons. You miss, they remove your kidney. You miss again, they remove your heart and eat it right in front of you, with garlic. Have to agree with most that the crowd as a whole, on both sides of the fence, should just shut the f**k up when ANY player is moving into their pre-shot routine and most definitely getting down on the shot. Pool requires serious concentration, especially at a high or pro level. It's not a bar with loud music and beer-drinking ball-bangers all trying to get laid. It's also not a reactionary sport like English football, American football or baseball where people can just carry on, endlessly. Imagine golf, tennis, or gymnastics. The sport needs to be respected if we want a global audience (as MR is striving for) and it needs to carry a bit more class. And that folks, is up to all of us. Most non-pool players have no idea how much practice time, money, dedication, conviction and sacrifice it takes just to get to a regional level, much less a pro. And they also have no idea that events go far beyond bars or large pool halls; beyond beer guzzling drunk tattooed guys with cigarettes hanging from their mouths, talking shit and looking for a fight. My wife WAS one of those non-believers. Now, between the 9' Brunswick parked perfectly level right in our living room and the Mosconi Cup, she has become one of us. :)

Pool has been played in a church(morgue if you prefer) since it's beginning. Rowdy fun crowds is exactly what the sport needs. Who the hell wants to go sit still for 10/12+ hours at a time to watch robots play.

MC is the proof - full PAID crowd all 4 days and even the losing fans had a great time.

Could you imagine going to a baseball, football, basketball, soccer game and having to sit there quiet the whole time.

Stadiums full of people paying to see.

Decades of failing to draw a crowd, let alone a paying crowd and you think more of the same is what's needed? 🤦‍♂️

Not at all. Re-read my post. Agree with you 100% as I said "loved the energy." My only gripe was noise of any kind when a player is going through their pre-shot routine or more importantly, down on a shot. That's just respect for the sport itself, and the player. Now, before or after that, let the big dogs loose. I could care less if it looked like the opening scene in the movie Gladiator. (*_*)
