billiards.colostate.edu moved to DrDavePoolInfo.com

CSU used to have a nice pool room. You know, the Gold Crown era of student unions. Looks like with the new buildings it is gone. Maybe Dr Dave can comment. That said I wouldn’t knock CSU too bad. Pool can’t be the university’s focus. I’ve always liked Ft Collins and the campus. Didn’t go there, but as a Denver kid there were events that got us up there from time to time. One year golf camp was the same time as a cheerleading camp and Broncos training camp. I think we had a better time than grown men with money ( not as much then) having to live in the dorms and go through old school training camp. 😜. I do remember playing pool there during my college years.

You are correct. CSU had a large and beautiful pool room, and a bowling center. Unfortunately, a flash flood in 1997 destroyed both of them. And more unfortunately, the university decided to use the insurance money to replace both of them with "flexible student activity offices and meeting rooms." The only pool tables on campus now are two bar boxes in a Students Center bar, and a few tables in the dorms.

Had moved from CO by ‘97 and was busy. Didn’t pay attention to that flooding. Too bad that happened. Looks like CSU has done a good job with new buildings and such.

Yep. CSU also stands for "Construction Site University." Buildings are constantly being built and renovated, and the results are impressive (except for the pool room missing).

That blows. I spent loads of time at the Memorial Union at NDSU (my grades reflected that...). We had 9 GCs, 2 ping-pong tables, a shuffleboard table, and an 8-lane bowling alley. Mike Montgomery (RIP), a dear friend and the manager of that area put so much work into that place being excellent. It's been forever since I've been back to Fargo. Need to get back up there soon for a football game (and beat up on some poor kids while I'm there :ROFLMAO:).

Well this is just sad. I started playing pool at the student rec center at Virginia Commonwealth University (Gandy Big 8's) back in the 90's and was a billiard instructor at Montana State University (mostly 9 foot Gold Crowns with a lonely 8ft snuck in) about 13 or so years ago. Thankfully they let the public play and it's still the nicest equipment in Bozeman. Hard for me to imagine a university without a functional pool hall. Where do the kids go when they skip class?

Edit: Forgot to add, Best of luck with the new website!

Unfortunately, university Student Union or Rec Center pool rooms are mostly a thing of the past now.

I do not believe that I suggested that pool "be the university’s focus". Universities never have a single focus.
Dr. Dave offered CSU an opportunity to expand its curriculum into an area new to academic treatment -- he was a pioneer, if you will. Dr. Dave spent many years successfully proving pool to be a subject worthy of academic inquiry. Dr. Dave will never criticize CSU, because he is not that type of man. Fortunately, or not, I am -- CSU screwed the pooch.

Someone has it registered, but there's no site or other DNS entries there. Squatters...

Pretty much all of the domain names I tried were already in use or squatted on. But when I added DrDave to the front, everything was available. DrDavePool.com was the shortest, but I liked DrDavePoolInfo.com better. Regardless, I bought both to point to the new site. DrDaveBilliards.com was already being used for my instructional products site.

Yes. DrDavePool.com also points to the new site. All the other ideas I and others came up with (I had a long list before I started searching) with were already taken. My original top choice was PoolInfo.com.
This one works for me, since when I meet players that want to play better, I literally tell them to "Google 'Doctor Dave Pool'". I do, however, also warn them that they, "will learn more than they ever wanted to know about pool"!

If my post was ambiguous I am sorry. I don’t think you suggested pool should be the focus. I disagree to an extent with you on the criticism of the university. I think it would be nice if pool was part of academics as when Dr Dave was teaching. It would be nice if there were a pool room like they used to have. I do understand why the university hasn’t gone in that direction.

Not long ago I drove through Fort Collins taking my son to a different college. The pool room in Fort Collins is 21+. No student union pool room. I dropped my son off at a dorm I lived in during the ‘80’s. They still have a pool table. But I got to be the curmudgeon and point out to him they had a furniture table. Back in my day we had a 9’ Brunswick anniversary…. Not in good shape but we had it. Anyway, I’d like the popularity of pool to be higher etc…. But things change. Sadly sometimes.

I played pool in Student Unions all across country. Maybe it was the fact they lacked bar boxes that attracted me, I don't know, but something always drew me to them. Although much of the time I was not a student, none of the Unions ever refused to rent a table to me. Coming from the very dry South, it always astounded me to find beer available in one. (Several brewing companies offered to build USM a new Union in exchange for being the exclusive purveyor of beer on campus. Sadly our wise governor stuck with no beer at all.) Interestingly, I spent very little time in the Ole Miss Union, but then Purvis's, three or four doors off the Square, was just blocks from my house. Neither sold beer.
