Dr Dave...Thank you for all you have done for pool and us players.
CSU used to have a nice pool room. You know, the Gold Crown era of student unions. Looks like with the new buildings it is gone. Maybe Dr Dave can comment. That said I wouldn’t knock CSU too bad. Pool can’t be the university’s focus. I’ve always liked Ft Collins and the campus. Didn’t go there, but as a Denver kid there were events that got us up there from time to time. One year golf camp was the same time as a cheerleading camp and Broncos training camp. I think we had a better time than grown men with money ( not as much then) having to live in the dorms and go through old school training camp.. I do remember playing pool there during my college years.
Had moved from CO by ‘97 and was busy. Didn’t pay attention to that flooding. Too bad that happened. Looks like CSU has done a good job with new buildings and such. You are correct. CSU had a large and beautiful pool room, and a bowling center. Unfortunately, a flash flood in 1997 destroyed both of them. And more unfortunately, the university decided to use the insurance money to replace both of them with "flexible student activity offices and meeting rooms." The only pool tables on campus now are two bar boxes in a Students Center bar, and a few tables in the dorms.

That blows. I spent loads of time at the Memorial Union at NDSU (my grades reflected that...). We had 9 GCs, 2 ping-pong tables, a shuffleboard table, and an 8-lane bowling alley. Mike Montgomery (RIP), a dear friend and the manager of that area put so much work into that place being excellent. It's been forever since I've been back to Fargo. Need to get back up there soon for a football game (and beat up on some poor kids while I'm thereYou are correct. CSU had a large and beautiful pool room, and a bowling center. Nice job Dr Dave. Moving was the right thing to do, IMO. It's your own brand, you did all the work for 20 years. Your name should be on it, not a University's name.
Well this is just sad. I started playing pool at the student rec center at Virginia Commonwealth University (Gandy Big 8's) back in the 90's and was a billiard instructor at Montana State University (mostly 9 foot Gold Crowns with a lonely 8ft snuck in) about 13 or so years ago. Thankfully they let the public play and it's still the nicest equipment in Bozeman. Hard for me to imagine a university without a functional pool hall. Where do the kids go when they skip class? You are correct. CSU had a large and beautiful pool room, and a bowling center. Unfortunately, a flash flood in 1997 destroyed both of them. Edit: Forgot to add, Best of luck with the new website!
They were dying in the 80's, and dead in the 90's. I went to college in the 90's and my school took out all of its tables my Freshman year.Unfortunately, university Student Union or Rec Center pool rooms are mostly a thing of the past now.

No, I am an intelligent pool player with an academic bent.Dude you sound like a student brown nosing.![]()
You couldn't come up with an easier domain?
Someone has it registered, but there's no site or other DNS entries there. Squatters...Yes. DrDavePool.com also points to the new site. All the other ideas I and others came up with (I had a long list before I started searching) with were already taken. My original top choice was PoolInfo.com.

This one works for me, since when I meet players that want to play better, I literally tell them to "Google 'Doctor Dave Pool'". I do, however, also warn them that they, "will learn more than they ever wanted to know about pool"!Yes. DrDavePool.com also points to the new site. If my post was ambiguous I am sorry. I don’t think you suggested pool should be the focus. I disagree to an extent with you on the criticism of the university. I think it would be nice if pool was part of academics as when Dr Dave was teaching. It would be nice if there were a pool room like they used to have. I do understand why the university hasn’t gone in that direction.I do not believe that I suggested that pool "be the university’s focus". Universities never have a single focus.
Dr. Dave offered CSU an opportunity to expand its curriculum into an area new to academic treatment -- he was a pioneer, if you will. Dr. Dave spent many years successfully proving pool to be a subject worthy of academic inquiry. Dr. Dave will never criticize CSU, because he is not that type of man. Fortunately, or not, I am -- CSU screwed the pooch.
