Incredible banks performance by Billy Thorpe yesterday - 11 in a row

I'd imagine most of you have seen banks played at this level in person. But if you're reading this and haven't, do yourself a favor and seek it out. Watching the best in the world play any game is amazing, but banks at this level makes it look like the players have supernatural control over the balls. It doesn't look possible even though your seeing with your own eyes.

Is this a record run? If not what is and who did it?
Truman banked 31 or 34 in a row practicing he told me. I can’t recall if it’s 31 or 34, one of the 2. I believe him. Said he was tossing balls out and banking them, I didn’t ask the details. I’ve banked 10-11 several times throwing balls out and making room as needed (lanes) and I’m sure I’ve banked as many without making lanes as well. I’m not a great bank player, but my bank game wasn’t my weakest game.

What Billy did is super strong, but it’s not near a record. He banks 10 in a row everyday i’m certain of that, even a bad day he’s got 10 in him for sure.

37 Eddie Taylor.... he told me as we talked at the BCA trade show early 2000's.
But his was different than this great showing by Thorpe, he ran 4 racks of 9 ball, then broke the last rack and made one.
He didn't run 5 then a rerack, he Ran all 9 balls each rack.

Absolutely correct Bill! His exhibition poster proclaimed boldly "Made a World Record 37 Bank Shots in a Row!" The world record holder, then and now. I personally witnessed Taylor (in Dayton mid 1960's) throw all fifteen balls on the table, take ball in hand and slowly and deliberately run them all one bank at a time. When he was done he simply threw the balls on the table and started again as if it was no big deal. I doubt he knew I was watching from behind the counter but I was. He continued doing the same thing for awhile, frequently running seven, eight or nine banks. I did not see him run them all again, but once was enough for me.

he probably meant in competition. what's the DCC record?

I’m just guessing here, but with as many matches as have been played in all the years of Derby-which is a huge number of matches.

There must be a lot of guys who banked out 2-3 racks in a row more than a few times.

Even tho there’s not many bank tourneys breaking and running a couple racks has had to have happened many times.

That’s my guess.

Best
Fatboy 😃 <———has never bnr 2 racks of 9B banks. I have bnr 1 rack countless times. I’m a good bank player but terrible compared to John Bback who I played lots of times when he stayed with me. If I made 2 balls on him I felt good! Those too bank specialists are just amazing. Shannon, same thing.

The record is 5. Can't count past one rack. Same reason the record in straight pool was 125 or 175 for 50 some years, it was the race length.

The ring game I think had 7 for sure. Grady had a bet at the first or second ring game for I think 500 that someone would run 7. The commentators were talking about it. Grady won his bet for 500, but it also eliminated himself (or a player he was backing, I forgot), from the game. So it was an overall loss for him.

Yes I’m interested in the record a set during a tournament match.
So am I, but there’s not a lot of bank events. I wish there was, banks is a tremendous game. Bobby Cotton taught me how to bank and wow did that bump up my bumps game. It takes a good teacher to really make a difference in banks. Such a great game. I like 9B > full rack by a mile.
