Heyball big money tourney

The implication of class, skill and lore associated. 'One piece' has a better feel. Bala Bala Bala... I mean one reason the wait for custom snooker cues is so high, is because someone will go ahead and order a ton of them for re-sale here. When they get here, they are often further bastardized into suitable cues for the Chinese-8 ball table. Hacking bits off to get the tip to the desired size.

the guy i watched yesterday, who's in the final now, appears to have played on the pro snooker tour for a good couple of years until covid. the comms had no clue who he was.

other than that it seems to me pool cues are overrepresented? and pretty beefy in terms of taper and tip diameter. maybe because directional nap or something

They like to offer past greats the money to show up. Of course they want to win, but they take a pretty big payday just for being there. China quite likes the 'mega universe grand ultra champion' to be home talent.

that makes sense for mark williams and maybe gary wilson, graeme dott, but there are quite a few less known players like eden sharav, michael giorgio trying heyball

this game is awesome
this tourney is now the biggest pay out in all of cue sports and will likely soon enough hit seven figures for the winner
they inclusion of women is great
the Chinese welcome all players from all disciplines from all over the world

too many haters here

Don’t think that anyone here hate the production, which is impressive.
It’s just the thing about playing pool on a snooker table (smaller version but still).
They could have just go with normal pool tables with tight pockets

all that may be true but its still about as entertaining as watching grass grow. been playing/watching cue games over 40yrs and this is the only one that i turn off waaaay before a full match is played. i don't 'hate' it at all, just don't see it as a fun game. just 'cause its hard doesn't equate to it being fun to watch.

I agree... Although I have heard rumour that inclusion isn't as open ended as you may think. Again, I've been lead to believe that the Chinese gov has it's fingers in the pie (so to speak) and they are protective of their product. I don't believe anyone with entry money can waltz in and play.

In the end, C-8b is a difficult game and subsequently slow paced. It's predominately a "moves" game that doesn't interest the current western instant gratification consumer.

My guess is that if the races were shorter and a match would end under an hour, it would have been easier to watch.

But I don’t think the promoters care about it too much, or at all when it comes to western viewers, they really want to keep it Chinese. Even the western players need to learn some Chinese to understand the referees…

Maybe it’s just part of the Chinese plot to take over the world… hehehe they want to be big enough to conquer the WPA first

Weird considering we all know that NA is the center of the universe...lol. I actually applaud them for not bending a knee to gain NA approval. If this was a Canadian game, we'd be apologizing and promptly morph the game into whatever you wanted.

very well said

and i would also say that
the highest prize money in pool doesn’t mean
that they are the best players in pool

It’s a different game.
The table plays differently, the player needs to play differently, he has to think differently.
These players are the best at this game.
You land the best pool players in a big Heyball tournament and they won’t make it to the last 16

What entry money? I didn't see any for that qualifier in Quincy.

Those SA commentators have mentioned China is pushing for Heyball to be in the 2032 Olympics.

With the Chinese viewers, and every "third world" country which can field a team (all), as well as the WPA, you can lock it up.

Said it before and I'll say it again, I wish someone would bring these tables to a tournament in the UK, just to see what those elite English/blackball 8 ball players do on those tables.

As for the game itself? I have patience for it, but it wears out because of the unnecessary long races.

Love it or hate it, at least Ultimate Pool has a formula that works from an entertainment standpoint. I just wish someone in the US would run a take what you make, call shot tournament as those are the rules I believe are the best for 8 ball.

From what I uderstand, these are standard 9ft snooker tables, don't you have them in the UK

quite a few e8b players played in this. i think noone made it past L32

darren appleton did this, it was called the WPS (world pool series). very good ruleset, very fun to watch, very little support/attendance from american pro players.

I find Heyball boring as hell, but I also find the World 8ball Championship boring as hell. I think the folks at Heyball realize that if 8ball is to be something other than just a breaking contest, the pockets must be super-tight. I get where they are coming from, but I find it very hard to watch,
Best way to put the ball ''in the hay''....

Cracker Box 8 Ball.

Play on a 6' Valley bar boxes.... saw my first one at Janscos Show Bar in 1969 at the Johnson City event.

John Stitch, might be able to get 80 tables loaded on too one semi.
80,000 lbs of tables in one rig.
Might be too heavy. :)
Ok 60.

I'm pretty sure the corner pockets on heyball tables are smaller than the standard for snooker pockets.
