Mike Sigel's American Billiard League

Ultimate Pool slop rules are the best ever rules in pool. I’m dead serious. They’ve led to some crazy buzzard beating shots.

This is coming from someone who has always despised watching any form of 8 ball before, both local and pro level.

Here's the final rule. I think it is not legally binding in some jurisdictions, but I'm not a lawyer. ;)
  • All league players will not take any legal action against America’s Billiard League for any reason after filling out the sign up sheet and or competing in the league.

I had to double check because I thought you were joking!

This kind of blanket, overly broad prohibition on all legal action is too vague to be enforceable. The league would still be on the hook for gross negligence leading to injury, harassment, willful misconduct, discrimination, and so on.

It does tell you something (seriously worrying) about the people who think it's appropriate to insert such a clause into the documents members are expected to sign.

Yeah if possible it seems worse than the APA. Slop on the 8 Ball is ridiculous.
You play a pretty decent safety where they have nowhere to put the 8 and they just bash into it and it goes in some pocket. You lose, they shake their head and say sorry. Oh well.

You play good pool the entire match to have someone smash into the rack and put you out of the tourney or cost your team a win.

Meant to add that you also give up 1 (ONE) rack per 40 point UPScore difference, and in that difference they don't start on the + side, you start on the minus side. So a 400 playing a 600 would start off at -5 to 0. Every game the -5 player wins reduces the - by 1, every game the 0 player wins, increases their score by + 1.

Granted, the 600 is supposed to win most of the games, but with a 30 minute match clock, trying to out run those - games is really really tough.

EfreM vs Sigel IPT final was just uploaded today. Relavent to this thread, of course, ha ha. KT in the booth.
Camera work is awful, like the 80's ESPN garbage. 20 year anniversary. Enjoy.

Sigel was a good enough talker to convince KT to do the IPT. He only had to convince one rich guy who liked pool. No way will he convince hundreds/thousands of league players to follow him in today's world.

like a reversed handicap?

I grew up on 8-ball barbox pool. In my neck of the woods, slop counts on everything except the 8, and on the break, if you called the pocket that the 8 ball went in, you win. If it went in another pocket you did not call, you lose.

I used to be on a pool league, and our team represented my one-barbox-table bar. The last match of the night was a tie-breaker for my team and another. And it was me against Vicki, who later married Mike Capone of Capone Cues. On the handicap systems, we were both 6's, with 7 being the highest. I was so nervous. Why did my team captain, Sonny, pick me to be the tie-breaker? I was sweating it, really feeling the pressure. Vicki hung out at the pool room and was used to playing on the big tables regularly. Me, I was a mere barbox player. Vicki was tough action.

I got the break on the flip of a coin. I looked over at my team captain right before the break and said, "Sonny, 8-ball side pocket." I cracked the rack, and the 8-ball went right in the side pocket like it had eyes. This was a win according with the league rules. I actually had a well-known 8-ball break that moved the 8 ball to the side pocket, much like today's 9-ball breaks in pro tournaments. My entire team started screaming, cheering loudly. They came over to me, giving me hugs and high-fives. I was so proud and relieved I didn't let them down. I felt bad for Vicki, but, hey, all is fair in love and pool, right? Vicki and I are good friends to this day.

Not worth the 'paper' it is written on, correct.

Sue as necessary.

And be sure you have a valid copy of the League's liability insurance certificate.🙄
