It seems that a lot of players are not putting the cue ball all the way to the side of the break box. If you practice the break, try to do it with a template rack and newish balls.Thanks. Also, break box too I assume. I have hit it a few times and can get the one to wander over towards the side pocket...it even goes in sometimes

To all: Hot tip from a soFla guy here (yeah, me). Players HAVE to stay at the Caribe, per WNT. But if you're just sitting on your ass, like I did at last year’s Mosconi, look up the Buena Vista Suites. Its the hotel directly next door and a 5 min walk to the event. Free parking too. (But don’t park there if you’re not a guest, unless you enjoy tow trucks.) Nice hotel. Clean. Wi-Fi, pool, gym, FREE parking, FREE breakfast. All you really need. And about 100 restaurants within a 4 mile ring as well as grocery stores.

Parking tip. Find a friend who is staying there and get a spare room key from them. You can get in and out for free lol

I think hotel guests pay $35 or so per night for parking if they use it. Will the friend get a surprise on his bill?
Sounds ideal if you're driving and not playing. The free part is about a $60/day additional advantage over the cost of the Caribe Royale.
There's a Hilton Vacation Club just north of there (walking distance), but they are not as good a deal.

I think it’s fabulous that there’s a full field for this event, as anything that helps grow this beautiful sport we all love is appreciated. I also think this policy I’ve seen in several MR events REQUIRING those playing in the event to stay at the Hotel of where the event being held is just wrong on multiple levels. A player, once their entry is paid, should be able to lodge wherever they like, and not be forced to stay where MR wants them to stay. Yes, promoters like MR are in this to make money and that’s understandable, but this requirement of where you can stay is an overstep, and shows that Emily really doesn’t care about pool at all, that it’s all about the shekels.

I understand but still, irrelevant of the compensation form is to MR, for them to dictate a player HAS to stay at the venue hotel to play in the event just isn’t right. Suppose a local player living in the area wants to play, he has to go rent an overpriced room and pay for parking in order to play instead of just staying at his home? It’s a pool tournament, and MR’s reach should extend no farther than to require the entry fee be paid, how much MR pays for the place shouldn’t be a burden transferred to the participants and dictating that they must stay at the venue borders on ridiculous.
This shows a lack of understanding of pool's business model. When an event producer approaches a hotel, the hotel is offering to provide something for them (use of the grand ballroom and a few free rooms for the staff are the bare minimum, but there's much more to it). In exchange for this, the event producer pledges a specified number of room nights as well as some less financially important things. Typically, if the event producer falls short of delivering the agreed minimum number of room nights (from players and attendees combined), they are on the hook for the unfulfilled promise.
Here is an example, admittedly an extremely oversimplified one:
An event producer, in exchange for the use of the hotel's grand ballroom for six days and the pledge that all associated costs are borne by the hotel, agrees to deliver 1,400 hotel nights, with an agreed to cost of $200 per room per night. Let's say that the players, some of whom stay longer than others, fill 850 of those room nights and other attendees fill 350 of them. In this case, the event producer will have fallen 200 room nights short of their 1,400 hotel nights pledge and would have to make up the difference of 200 room nights at $200 each, or $40,000. This would be a big hit to the bottom line of the event producer.
In short, an event producer is, typically, at risk when they make a tournament deal with a hotel, so unless players stay at the host hotel, they are endangering the long-term viability of that event. Event producers that are unable to deliver the room nights often walk away from staging the event in the future.
Hence, it is necessary, at very least, for most of the players to stay at the host hotel, and I have no problem with an event producer requiring it in most cases.
