Well Chua just gave one right back after missing this shot!

Chua ended up pulling out the victory 9-7.

Anyone noticed that Chua played the last few racks at absolute blazing speed, especially that last rack? He even would go down on several shots before the CB even stopped rolling...literally. Not sure if that was to psych himself up, or psych out Pongers. Chua might have been annoyed by Pongers very extended break right after Chua got on the hill.

Chua looked tired until the very end. Some uncharacteristic mistakes and misses. But Quinten Pongers let him off the hook. Any top 20 player would have sent Chua to the one-loss side. He needs a day off and will get it.

Quinten is the older brother of the younger - and better - Yannick.

Filler now on table 3. Early WNT TV sighting.

Wolford showed a lot of promise in the Mosconi Cup a few years ago.

What the hell happened?
Isn't wolford one of those players these forums hate because all he does is play in bar table tournaments the majority of the time?

abdullah alyousef, the kuwaiti with the greying beard? omar al shaheen?
Yep, it was Abdullah who I was thinking of. Speaking of which, what happened to him and Omar? They were traveling buddies for all of those tournaments then and they just disappeared.

I think Pongers was annoyed by Chua’s soft breaking in the last few racks. Chua should have been called out, but I haven’t seen him do that before.

Frost thought Chua was tired from Battle of the Bull. The last day was a grueling one that finished late. SVB also seemed a bit off in his evening match. Both will be happy to have a day off.

Surprise of the day might be Alex Bausch beating Mario He and Lin Ta Li on the first day.

Got me wondering: Who is the best native-born American player after SVB, Sky and Styer.

Oscar is still the guy, it seems, but he is not a WNT regular. Semi-regular now.

A few years ago it looked like Wolford would eventually be the one. No longer. He has plateaued. Doesn’t play all the big events and makes too many mistakes.

He still might be the fifth or sixth best American active on the WNT circuit, but not by much. Got married since the Mosconi and needs to earn a living. Not easy for more than a few US players to get sponsorship money.

Then there’s Billy Thorpe. He’s always been a tease. Still haven’t seen the evidence he can be a top 25 player globally.

Sam Henderson gets some buzz and he still is very young. Long way to go, though.

Fracasso-Verner keeps improving. Not spectacular, but steady. Just haven’t seen that extra gear you’d expect to see glimpses of in a player who is 23 years old.

Someone is going to emerge eventually, but I just don’t know who.

Probably bergman if he wanted to be on tour

Shane plays all tables and bets his own playing whatever. One of the best out there.

abdullah i would guess is on the older side of seriously considering being a WNT touring pro. he looked 50 then, i know he wasn't but probably pushing 50 now

on shane wolford. good talent. but he has an aura about him that he's content with being the local hero, if that makes sense. i think we've all seen and played guys like that

some guy in my pool hall said mario he was a contender, I scoffed at this notion. he is not in the contending class of pool players. he would probably be the 3-5th best american player though

unfortunately you're right. he was racking up eurotour wins when eurotour still had the best european players partaking in it, looked for a long time like a future champion. didn't happen, and i think at least one of the reasons why is very obvious..

Skog....
Some above comments reminded me of thee ''exact'' same player/character/ego from my era tho he did allot better.
Allot of players when they ''got good'' they also got the girl and started a life.
I know I did.
But some birds aren't able to, the gals saw thru em.
Pools like....
College/get an education/get a girl/get a life goin'.

Spent 9 days with my family on the beach in MI.
Nice reboot.
I remember when Nicky chose his path, and I chose mine.
We were young men making choices. 1969-70
I enjoyed most all my jobs. But they felt like ''journeys''.
I think each ''persons'' True character was formed growing up with family, w/o fam, with love, w/o love, with giving (lucky few)/others????.
It's easy to lay blame.... but is it directed accurately.
