US Open 08/18-23

What was going on with JJ against the Russian.

They were taking so long to shoot it was crazy.........

surely you have seen JJ play before?

arseni is finnish, they have a minority with russian names (not necessarily russian ethnicity, it's complicated) going back a long time. don't know if arseni comes from the old minority or the newer. poolmanis would maybe know better

either way JJ slowed him down, and in the last racks he was almost JJ paced. he's otherwise a fast player

Lot of heavy hitters left. Gorst, Filler, Yapp, Chua, Ko, Shaw, a possibly resurgent Ouschan, an in-form Feijin.

Guys like Duong and Wielinski are high level and looking for a big breakthrough. Roda has solidified his position as the third best Pinoy. Grabe has also been playing his best ever in the last year and a half. Wu Ku Lin looks like he is trying to win one for his prematurely departed friend.

Filler was a bit shaky in the first half of the match vs Chang. Then it was pure Filler. He didn’t let Chang breath. Gorst has been in top form. Yapp not quite at his very best, but still rock solid. Shaw has been great, no slop.

Feijin was the most impressive player yesterday. Can he do it again? He can beat anyone the way he broke and controlled the table.

Chua was erratic vs Holman, but must have played better vs Kazakis. He needs to be better. Curious to see if Ouschan is really back.

Oscar gets it tough, but who knows.

Greetings from Atlantic City.

Interesting Us Open so far. Wednesday had some good matches but the most remarkable was Oscar Dominguez’ comeback from 7-0 vs Szewczyk, a match in which each player missed the double hill nine ball before Oscar prevailed.

I feel the four players who have shown excellence in every match they have played so far are Filler, Gorst, Yapp and Shaw. Still, quite a few can still win this and I am looking forward to the Day 5 matches.

All I know is that it will take flawless play and a bit of luck to win a US Open. Talk about a tough field!

Does anyone know when the semi finals and finals will be played? The Matchroom Pool website only lists TBD. Just curious if this is supposed to wrap up tomorrow or Sunday.

I think he´s father is originally from Russia. Finnish Citizen. Not totally sure.
I played Arseni many times and sometimes when he feels pressure he melts down a little and get slow. He won almost all tourneys on Finnish Kaisa many years but i beat him every time. Once in final that he always remembers. He feels it when he plays with me and get slow and not play his best haha.
Also beat him on pool many times but 2 last time i got crushed.

So old school. Still lifts his back leg up on breaks!

and he breaks good. hard and not many dry breaks when i was watching.

niels still looks so intimidating when he's playing lol. probably the biggest contrast between game face and off the table personality.

Chang Yu Lung giving Filler a run for his money. This guy reminds me a lot of Dennis Orcollo.

i don't see the likeness to dennis, but i like chang. i want to see a filler v fedor clash (or josh v chua) as much as many others do, but part of me was rooting for chang. he broke down in the latter half, obviously, and i don't know if it was nerves or being tied up by josh.

glad to see him back on the big stage anyway. he may be the last competitive pro with an old school billiards stance.

Haven't seen that much of JJ playing.

I thought the guy was Russian from his name.

My apologies.

I saw Arseni before running around the table shooting in a prior match.

It almost hurt watching JJ toweling off his CF shaft after every shot. The dude plays with a glove too.

Then Arseni went mad, second, third and fourth guessing every shot.

Slow play in One Pocket doesn't bother me that much but in Nine Ball its torture..........

Bookmakers have Zielinski as +300 to beat Fedor.

I like Fedor, but Wiktor's game is good enough to beat him.
