Men's 2025 World 8-Ball Championship, Bali, Oct.7-13

They aren't even streaming any of the round of 32. Pathetic.

very strange decision.

Yikes, Filler trails Makkonen 3-7 in the L32. SVB is ahead 5-1 in his match.

Edit -- Those matches ended the way they were headed -- Makkonen over Filler 10-6 and SVB over Mantra 10-3.

petri makkonen may be the strongest breaker in northern europe, and it is 8-ball on brunswick-y tables, filler doesn't have as much of an edge. good on petri.

I have been watching a fair amount of both UK 8 ball and Chinese 8 ball recently, their standard of pattern play is so much higher, makes it tough to watch this WPA tourney where guys are failing to run out with open tables

Filler is on the downward slope.

seems SVB lost by the same score to hijikata. could be a final between a relatively unknown japanese and a completely unknown filipino. but albin looks strong (i'm only scoreboard watching this event, but strong scores).

Haven't seen any of this yet, but anyone who predicted this final four can take a deep bow.

Hijikata, who easily beat both SVB and Maciol, must be playing at a very high level. Ouschan hasn't won a major in quite a while and has a chance to write a great story tomorrow. Kazakis has found himself in the late stages of many big events over the years. This year alone, he got bronze at the Las Vegas 10ball and silver at the 2025 World 10ball. It might just be his time. I've never heard of Saguiped.

Best of luck to the four semifinalists.

--At this event two years ago Hijikata beat JL Chang twice, the 2nd time 10-5 to get to quarterfinals
--A month later he beat Chua 11-3 and Yapp 11-8 to get to finals of All Japan
--2024 China Open he beat Jui An Hsu, Kun Lin Wu, and Nayoiki Oi (11-6) to face Filler in the finals.

Though he doesn't travel to everything, it feels as though he should be a little better known. Asia # 32 on that list we did a week or two ago--about in line with Grabe or Souto

How did the mysterious Ameer Ali play Fargo-wise in this event?

I was able to watch it here in the Philippines (on vacation now) on a Vietnamese TV station. Pretty much unwatchable for me. Went back to the Hanoi Open and that tough Rasson table. They were playing some pool there.

I always used to see that pool players would play on the floor if there was enough money involved. This one was close.

he almost made the final. lost on the hill to albin (don't know how, they flubbed the streaming).

saguiped also lead kazakis 8-5. what a bookie breaker that would've been.

Albin is 6-0 over Kazakis in the final
He breaks well (from the center) and looks in good form like he hasn’t been for a long time

He was already a BCA Hall of Fame lock, but a third WPA sanctioned world championship puts Albin in rarefied air. Of male players still active, SVB, Filler, Gorst, Kaci, Feijen, Souquet, and both Ko brothers have two. Only Strickland, Biado, Hohmann, and now Albin have more than two.

Well done!

PS I added Biado to those having more than two after Skor corrected me.
