Mosconi Cup 2025, Dec. 3-6, Alexandra Palace, London

One thing that would help the image/status,IMO: have it every two yrs like the Ryder. Makes the wait/build-up bigger. I still think it will always be exhibition but they could tweak it for the better. I haven't watched a MC in at least 10yrs, this yr i'm gonna sweat it. I know pretty much what to expect: obnoxious euro-weenies screaming their hammered heads off. ;)

Serious event or mere exhibit? Lots of fun or killed by lack of competition? Merit based selection or WNT favoritism?

Whatever your views, AZB is talking about it, and that's what Matchroom wants.

Call it what you will, be to me, it's still the most compelling event in pool.

Based on the sheer number(and the tone/tenor) of your posts you are ALL-IN on ALL things MR. You gotta be MR's biggest fanboy, which is fine if that's your bag. If its a free stream with decent players i might watch but i don't pay to watch WNT pool, not that interested. I haven't watched a MC since about 2010ish, i find watching pros play races to 5 FAR from compelling.

While MC is probably one of the most entertaining event to watch, I had hoped team USA would throw in a rookie or two. Now the interest and focus is on Pijus and Moritz how they will handle the pressure. I just wish it the match will be an even one until the end, when the scoreline gets one-sided, the tension is gone.

I surely hope World Cup of Pool would return to the calendar, especially now that MR and WPA at least seemingly have buried the hatchet. Predator already introduced doubles events, probably MR will follow suit soon 🧐☺️

Not sure why people are downplaying the "rookies" like they have an enormous weight on their shoulders. Filler and I believe Sky, we're MVPs in their rookie year. I'll take Pijus and Moritz over anyone in the USA team given how they are playing TODAY.

As a fan, I'm jealous of how Europe keeps producing new elite players.
At least you have your own country represented. Europe is not a country and I don’t have any pride in seeing a European team. I may even support the US (except maybe when Neuhausen plays).

This is a good point. As a Brit living in North America I actually want the Americans to win. Although that maybe just the underdog thing since I always want Europe to win the Ryder cup

They will be very hard pressed to sink to a lower level than what we got from US fans in Florida at the 2024 Mosconi, which included both vulgarity and profanity, sometimes even when a player was already over the shot. I should add that the referees did nothing to curb such behavior. As I have noted before, the days of Michaela Tabb and Nigel Rees demanding that the crowd conduct itself with civility are behind us.

European fans are very invested in the Mosconi Cup, and I wish our Team USA fans were just as passionate. I make a point of sitting in the Team Europe section once at every Alexandra Palace Mosconi Cup, and this year will be no different. I have always enjoyed the company of the Team Europe fans, finding them to be congenial and courteous with me.

Agreed, although I'm more inclined to call it the most entertaining event, not the most compelling.

Why do you always feel the need to personally attack someone when they have a different opinion than yours?

You're giving him $h1t for thinking the event is compelling? When you admitted yourself you haven't even watched it in 10 years, let alone pay for a WNT stream ever. So how do you have such a well-informed opinion of an event you haven't seen in a decade?

But now all of a sudden you're going to watch it for the first time. I think you proved his point, that it is indeed compelling.

Try not to be a grumpy old man, especially when others are being respectful. Don't forget you're literally on a pool forum, where people discuss pool related things, Mosconi Cup being one of them.

Know where you are coming from. I don't think the "weight of the world" argument is valid when it comes to Mosconi rookies. I think what's hard for a Mosconi rookie is dealing, for the first time, with the crowd noise, that reaches a level not nearly found at any other event. Some get used to it, and some do not. Shaw seems to raise his level of play whenever the crowd noise is amped up, which is why he is the right captain for Team Europe.

Neuhausen will have been helped by having participated in the Reyes Cup last month, but the crowd will be a lot louder at the Mosconi. Labutis, on the other hand, may find the transition a little tougher, much as Mickey Krause did a year ago. It took Mickey three days to really get going, and on Day 4, only a double hit foul denied him a win over Gorst, so he eventually figured it out.

Admittedly, Filler in the 2017 event is the exception. Skyler wasn't MVP in 2016, but in 2018 he probably gave the best performance by any American player in the past decade. Tyler Styer wasn't MVP in 2018, but he was a Mosconi rookie that contributed significantly.

He seems incapable of posting without making a personal attack. It’s like a Tourette’s tic.
