Scotty Townsend Rumor

What I would like to see happen with this topic is for a moderator to go through and remove every single post that doesnt pertain to scotty so the stories about him can continue (including this one after the sweep).

over reacted and at the wrong target

He over reacted and fired both barrels at the wrong target besides. I seem to remember someone else doing that a few months ago and using almost the same words. I think there was a past history with "Playboy" and the forums. If not, his irrational behavior did indicate that it wasn't a case of if but when he went off.

Thank you for asking Wayne. If you would care to read some threads I participated in on the Non Pool Related area (my first posts on there), you will see where I got trashed much worse than Playboy. One was an Al Gore thread and the other had to do with the Iraq war.

One guy in particular (no names mentioned) tore into me with a vengeance. I chose to counter his comments as intelligently as I could. The way I look at it is, it's only words. I have been in much worse spots in my life, so a little name calling doesn't bother me that much. Just check my thread on Sleeping In Your Car. And that was less than a week ago.

In my mind, Playboy over reacted, plain and simple. He didn't HAVE to go off like that. Someone told me something long ago that I never forgot. Just because someone acts like an a--hole, doesn't mean you have be one also.

One way to look at the picture is how tall of a building could you put under the bridge sitting on the water? How many floors in the building? For arguments, 10 feet per floor? Can you put a 7 story building in there? It looks to me like about 70 or 80 feet.

Kelly

It's 153 feet according to this.

Of course that's the one on US-90. There's another one in Baton Rouge.

Yeah, I looked it up as well. The question is what point are they measuring from? The bottom, the top, or the midpoint of the structure? Logic would say the bottom, but you never know. If someone was wanting to make claims, they may report the top of the structure. They also could report it based on low water level.

Jay may be right though, it could be right at a 100. I will donate $5 to have someone go up there with a range finder or a 100 foot rope. :D

Kelly

The one I just linked to says 153 feet from the railroad tracks.

Cheers,
RC

Two bridges bear the name Huey P. Long, both same style of bridge. The other one (113 reference) is the one in question.

I grew up around Scotty about 20 years ago and heard some great stories. One time he went to the midwest on a road trip and was playing a guy and losing. He was pissed off and asked the guy if he knew who he was playing. The guy told him no and he said "I'm Scotty Townsend". The guy shrugged his shoulders and said "who?". Scotty was so pissed the guy didn't know who he was he gave him the 7 and pumped the bet. He was plastered at the time (he usually was) and went busted of course.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned what a go-off artist Scotty was. He could have thousands in his pockets and be broke within hours because he always thought he could outrun the absolute nuts, and did many times.

Nice first post. Yes, Scotty has a fondness for a drink or two, or three, or.....and he plays pretty good behind it.....for a while. The "wise guys" have long known to get Scotty on a big table when he's drinking. He is a little harder to heist on a small box, drunk or not.

Thanks, I've been reading the forums for a long time just never registered. I've read alot of posts on here about people I've played and seen over the years that most people don't know.

Scotty would get carried away when he was drinking and offer some crazy spots. The first time I played him I was 18 at a bar called piero north sp? in Monroe, La. I was there with some friends drinking (you could drink in La at the time when you were 18) when he came in and offered anyone in the house the last 5 on a bar table. I had to take it and got up pretty quick then we adjusted to the last 4. After getting up some more we just about got into a fight because I wouldn't adjust more at the time. I was 6'3 and about 220 at the time but he didn't care lol... I was playing a local legend and was scared to death to adjust more at the time no matter if I was a big favorite.

Man he had the most beautiful stroke when he was younger. It's shortened up over the years as he's gotten older but he could do anything with the cueball and just about jump anything back then. We used to call him hop-scotch.

For those that don't know him, Scotty is probably about 5'9" and maybe 170 pounds soaking wet (after he jumps off a bridge). He must be 50 now, or close. Who knows him well enough to verify this?

His birthdate is on the IPT profile. (one good use of the site) :D

If you can trust it, 46, birthday July 15th.

I think Scotty's ability to fight has been exaggerated a little on here but his willingness hasn't lol... I've seen him get pummeled once and heard of it a couple more times, by bigger guys granted but he was no rocky.

Chad McMillan played Scotty with the last 3-4 depending on how drunk Scotty was. Chad wouldn't match up one night so Scotty pulled a branch off a tree, sanded it down and put a slip on tip on it to play him even and I believe he won. It was a loonnnggg time ago so the details are a little fuzzy to me.

Speaking of Chad, one night a road player came through campus rex and played him a race to 7 for $50. It took Chad a little while to come up with the money so I guess the guy knew he wasn't going to win anymore and he basically ran the set out. Chad was so pissed he got hustled he told the old man who was probably in his 50's and 5'6" "What are you going to do if I don't pay you?"... The old man pulled out a knife and said "What do I have to do?"... I laughed until I almost cried as Chad paid the guy and he left.

To all the readers of this thread:

Please accept my sincerest apologies for making any contribution whatsoever to the confusion at the beginning of this thread. I was not privy to Russ' pre-edit post, nor was I aware that Scotty was such an entertaining character and therefore I assumed, as did Russ, that there might have been something off-kilter about the post. This thread provides ample evidence of how wrong I was. Further, the use of the word 'asinine' was much too harsh. In my mind, I saw Russ making a conscious attempt to be "kinder and gentler" in his response to certain posts, which was the reason that I posted on the thread in the first place, and then it appeared that he was getting flamed anway. In retrospect, however, the better thing to do was to stay out of it.

I stand by my contention that Playboy was totally out of line in the way that he responded to Russ and myself, and I suspect that it was in fact just a matter of time before he had a Mike Matusow blowup and got himself banned. However, I could certainly have been gentler in my approach, and for that I apologize to all. I especially feel bad because the Scotty Townsend portion of this thread has truly been great. I can envision a whole year of a reality series just based on this guy alone!

Let's get this behind us and focus on what we love--pool.

Peace,

It's just too bad that a poster was banned partially because of your ignorance ..

Ask yourself this ..If "Playboy" was still with us,would you be a man and apologize to him personally?
