Somewhat agree, but for single layer tips such as Triangle, you want the biggest ones. They come from the better, thicker part of the hide.

There are so many tip sizes, Cuetec has a shaft that is 10.5 mm, I have shafts that are 12.5mm,12.0 mm and 11.8mm, and there are plenty more sizes, then you have different tip radius as well, thats why they just make them bigger so it covers all of them.

Yes, but to individually cut each tip that you sell to a customer based on a mic'ed shaft radius (which will always either be a little over or under and will need to be burnished in etc, you're going to be spending close to what you would to have an installer do it for you properly anyways, so it just doesn't make sense.

I was just thinking about this a little bit more and it is doable. I could write a program that would use a website form for a user to enter in the tip information and then the program woud create a cnc g-code to cut out each tip from a layered leather sheet. They could choose a tip radius as well and even a depth, since some people like layers cut off on install. Then using a tip centering tool, they could just glue it on and go.

However, it would have to be with the disclaimer that the user is responsible for any install related issues, since you would still need to burnish in the tip sides to properly install it.

For it to be feasible, it would probably have to be $35 for a single and $30 each for 2-3 and $27 for 4-10 etc.

With mostly everything done now with machine programming even with cue building, there is no logic why a tip couldn't have the same treatment. I can only say that they are doing that on purpose so that there is money that can be made with having your tip serviced. Installation, treatment, shaping, etc... like going for a haircut but they offer you other stuff that make you spend more.

Well the tip manufacturers have no intent to ever sell direct to the public. They sell hundreds or thousands of tips to each of their customers every month. There's literally, NO incentive to do anything like this. It would be impossible to sell the numbers that they do.

That's the reality. The only reason anyone would even consider doing this is as in inroads into a dominated market and to get the retail profits without a middle man.

edit: It's not that they wouldn't want to sell direct to the public, but something like this would make it impossible to sell by their customers that purchase vast quantities of tips from them, alienating their customers. They won't sell direct to the public in a way that alienates their clientele.

all it takes is a, middle man/retailer, with cnc knowledge. these things go through a couple people anyway before it gets to you.

then the customer picks the exact size he wants.
