Amazon perimeter style light

Here's a screenshot from Alibaba and one from the Perimeter Billiard Lights web site. You can draw your own conclusions.

I guess now that I think about it I am now anti-light. I like the huge headroom that recessed ceiling lights give me.

I had my qty 2: 2x4 LED's flush mounted to my 9' tall drywall ceiling. It lit the table plenty good, zero chance to hit my head, and didn't have a big light swinging from chains in my living room. IMO, it was much better.

You can buy a Perimeter light with a dimmer. How is the Amazon light any different - how does the Amazon light not blind you? They both can be obtained with dimmers. Thousands swear by the Perimeter Billiard table light- I see them at all the European tournaments on TV- just asking bc I want to make a good decision myself in the near future. Thanks

I've never seen the Amazon version in person so I can't comment on it.

The Arena light and the Perimeter light I'm very familiar with. The root problem on both of them is they don't have eggshell style grate diffusers. Those diffusers keep the light pointing down, and prevent it from going sideways. All the Brunswick lights (both home style and commercial GC light), all the Diamond lights (from their first ones in the early 90's thru today), and all the Littman lights have this eggshell style grate. It makes it comfortable for the player, and the spectator.

The Arena and Perimeter lights, in contrast, have a frosted plastic diffuser without any depth to it. It allows the light to escape sideways, in addition to downward. What this means is the player when down on a shot gets the light from the next table over in his eyes. Spectators walking around the room get light in their eyes from all directions. It's quite uncomfortable. It's like being in a hospital operation room. Those lights changed the entire atmosphere of the room from dim and comfortable to an operating room.

The Arena is worse than the Perimeter because its brighter.

As far as the dimming control, that was an extra cost option on both brands. It was not standard. You know how that goes... most room owners and homeowners bought the cheapest one, that didn't have it. Just like the metal wire ball tray on a Diamond was an extra cost option, and all the one pocket players put their balls on the floor by the legs, because the room owners rarely paid extra for it.

Now if this Amazon one still doesn't have the egg-crate diffuser, but does at least have a dimmer as standard, and as a bonus temperature control, I'd rather go with that unknown than 2 lights I know for sure are uncomfortable.

I wouldn't order something like this from Amazon unless it was a Prime listing (free, no issue returns). These lights are very delicate, large to ship and many packages are damaged these days during shipping.
Yeah, and make sure you keep the boxes. I got so used to them not wanting boxes when I brought stuff to Kohls for amazon returns. Bought something larger, didn't think I needed the boxes to return, wife recycled em, now I'm not returning it because it requires the boxes dropped off at UPS. 60 Inch boxes aren't all that easy to find.

Arena light has a dimmer and color change remote. I have one. It is a great light.

I saw a perimeter style light in one of the groups recently that was about $300 on Amazon, marketed for garages and such. I can't find it now for the life of me. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and have a link?
Not sure but I have the original and love it.

I've played under Predator lights and I cannot tell a difference in the quality. For me, it was worth the money to purchase one of these and install it myself. I already had a plug in the ceiling. View attachment 874862
Which light do you have?

I’m kinda liking the white trim. Might have to paint mine.

Made a bargain with the wife and she let me take down the ceiling fan and install this!

It is a 3’x6’ Amazon jobby. Has the dimer and 3 different temperatures. It is 8’ high. What a difference it makes!

I would consider the Littman - great testimonials - looking at about $1,000 or so now for this light- way more than a $300 Amazon for a nine footer. A lot to consider when choosing the best table lighting .
I bought a Littman when I had my table installed. Lights just the table, not the entire room, great diffuser. I paid less because it was 5 years ago, great lighting.

I think that I will go with the original Perimeter Light company for my pool table light once I buy a table in my new home. I would hesitate to buy an Amazon offered light- yes it is cheaper- why? why? --sorry but investing thousands in a table and then paying an electrician to do a correct overhead light install- I would hesitate to just grab any light off Amazon just bc it is much less expensive.

Everyone can choose to do whatever they want- not knocking anyone's personal decision - but after living a long time you learn that cheaper is rarely better, sometimes- but not too often-- especially when an install is involved- for the do it yourselfers- do you really want to end up doing it twice; way before it should need to be done again?

IDK- maybe someone here can firmly attest that an amazon perimeter light is the same or better than the Perimeter light that has been tried and true in the billiard world-- one cost $321 and the original Perimeter nine foot is about double that price-- again WHY?
Technology isn't new anymore...more players in the game
