Oh my, it really must take a pool fanatic to be able to sit there and watch a player run balls for 3 hours, lol.
 
I know JS is a elite straight pool player , but a run of 800 no matter the conditions is a phenomenal accomplishment. Just the ability and knowledge to stay out of trouble for over 50 racks should be acknowledged. Most people play there whole life trying to run a 100 CONGRATS JOHN SCHMIDT

Nobody plays it.

I practice it most days and people are always coming up and asking what the hell I'm doing with the break shots. So what it would take is someone who loves the game and has a bunch of money he's interested in burning through. I flew out to NYC in 2000 to watch the US 14.1 Open at the Roseland Ballroom. It was a great event but lamentably its last hurrah.

Would take money, good scheduling, and players showing up. No one showed up for last year's event at the International (that 14.1 being what was the old American 14.1 event).

Yes, the biggest hurdle is (surprise) money. The WPA claim to hold the rights to "World Championship" for pool events. And from the WPA Sanctioning rules @ https://wpapool.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/240427-WPA-Sanctioning-Guidelines.pdf

A "World Championship" event requires:
  • $200,000 in added money
  • Sanctioning Fee - negotiated, typically not less than 7.5% of added money
  • Application from a WPA member

Didn't Schmidt win the DCC onepocket event one year? I think he did. I also remember Schmidt saying he couldn't see how Billy Thorpe could be beat in onepocket after trying him a 10k set or something like that years ago. Helluva player regardless, obviously. Hope he breaks the 14.1 record causing a run off (y)

Yes, he won one year. I think he beat Frost in the finals 3-0 or 3-1 if memory serves.
