Watching top flight players negotiate games for the cheese

thats true, but they have to learn the game and the shots they never use in 9 ball. and need to have thinking skills.

9 ball is just one of the many pool games, so is one pocket.

I think the only shot in 1 pocket that doesn't come up in other games is following a ball in

taking fouls
kick banks
Banking balls into clusters/the stack
lag banks
lag cuts
High side-Spin long distance
Clearing your opponents pocket
Spot Shots
all variations of 3 rail banks...

I could go on but

I do agree that top tier rotation players can QUICKLY surpass high level specialists but it does take work and some study.

Guys like Biado are such aliens that they could never play any game at all and instantly compete at it. Give them time playing One Pocket and it's inevitable they will steamroll specialists.

One of my favorite memories of barking at a player came watching Efren on the practice table. It was at the Reno Sands tournament in the mid 80s. Efren was shooting rotation to warm up for the 9 ball event. And a railbird was barking Straight Poo!
Efren ran 2 racks in rotation, stopped and enquired, "are you sure, you want to play straight pool?"
He quit barking. 🤷‍♂️

Do you even play pool?

ALL OF THOSE THINGS HAPPEN IN OTHER GAMES.

not to all, but 9 ball is like checkers to me, and one pocket like chess.

both have a place and 9 ball is where the tournament money is and how to get rankings.

one pocket if you want to make any money in the pool room against not so good players.

few gambled at 9 ball and we called it a bust out game. as in one or two games you could always tell if you would win or not.

one pocket you were never sure unless it was really one sided.

Yeah, that's what I asked.

Remains unanswered by your answer.
When I find my way out , I can try and research that.

You're not as smart as King Wang 😋
I won't put names out into the open space like this, just because it is impolite to do so. Can DM you the details if you want to know :)
Dumber than a ??? I'll concede likely not as hung. :ROFLMAO: Thought maybe your guy was fair game. Just wanted to watch something on youtube. Future king ( any resemblancetoanypersonlivingor ...) maybe?
Ok I could PM you but I'll just ask here.

Please PM Me the goods.

Most "pros" do not bet their own.
That is a dynamic that fascinates me.
It must be great to just play for jelly if you win with no risk if you lose.

Imagine being good enough to have backers that will put you in, even when you may not have the best of it. I have had plenty of times with people betting with me, and not getting anything when I win.

You know, I never cared for the gambling side of pool but I've always found it interesting how other people have no problem putting up so much money on one player they are hoping will win. It literally makes no sense to me that those people would put up mid 5 figures. But hey, if they have the money to spend, whatever makes them happy right?

makes me happy as a clam. to make any bet of any kind, i feel i have the best of it. and have the goods to show for it.

Been a while since I posted an 'experience' here.

The other night I had a chance to play with one of the better foreign guys who had been playing in the Duya in Qingdao. He's from the same neck of the world as me, and he was chilling in Shanghai waiting to move onto somewhere else. Humbling to watch someone who can play so well, so casually. We started on the Chinese table, and after a while moved to one of the Rasson tables. We played for a while, talking shit and having a good time. Can't say I did myself any justice, but enjoyed it. Was nice to play a bit on the Chinese table to be honest, as I seldom play on it. Felt like a proud little kid being asked for thoughts and advice on breaking if I'm honest. Shame the rest of my game was nothing to write home about hahaha

Anyway, a lot of the top TW players stop in at my local hall regularly, most of them had also been at Qingdao, and were looking a lot more comfortable in their natural habitat on the Rasson cash tables. They are all obviously high pedigree American table players (world champions among them). I tried to sort out a few cash games between my guy and some local players, and got pushed in the direction of the TW players. A lot of negotiations, but nothing materialized. My guy wanted to hit the Chinese table (8 or 9 ball), and they all wanted to play on the American table.

What stood out to me the most, was watching my favourite TW player of all time turning down a game on the American table, even after a generous spot offered... (granted my guy had made him look like he couldn't hold a cue in Qingdao). Watching the body language and negotiations was incredibly entertaining. Must be hard to nurse your own ego, while maintaining a strong appearance, as you clearly duck out of the way of a game.

Curious if anyone else has been a situation, where they have seem someone they regard highly having to tuck their tail between their legs.
Often depends on who's watching.... and Many other factors. I normally worked someone for months while doing my routine waiting for the right time. Gambling and winning in not simple.

Back in the poolroomistine era, there'd be the type that wouldn't practice a minute and dive into any game they liked. They'd go off for their weekly disposable and be happy or something.
Champs are looking for scores not debt.
