Best Current Pool Players 70+ Years Old?

Just curious who are some of the best current living pool players who are at least 70 years old, as far as how well they are still playing right now?

Obviously Efren would be near the top of that list. Others that come immediately to mind for me are Nick Varner, Mike Sigel, Jose Parica, Ronnie Wiseman and Ernesto Dominguez.

Many of the greats have lost so much of their game by this age or have completely stopped playing, but there are some exceptions of players who are still very formidable players at 70+.

Obviously any list of 80+ year old current strong players would be even more limited. As for 90+ year old players still playing good pool, Cool Cat Ray Martin at 91 would most likely stand alone the at the top of that list, assuming he may still play occasionally. Just looking for names and opinions - thanks!

Outside of having a completely debilitating physical or mental medical
Issue in your 70s and beyond - where you give up the game entirely; no matter how well one can still execute at that age - very few if any player 70 and beyond would have the physical and mental stamina to compete at a pro winning level for hours and hours a day over the stretch of a multi day tournament or gambling session.

No idea whether any of them still plays, but Kim Davenport, Allen Hopkins and Jim Rempe are all over 70. Dallas West is in his mid-80s, but no idea whether he still plays. Billy Incardona is also over 80, but does he still play?

Davenport plays, Hopkins kinda, we played in the MR US Open a few yrs back, he couldn't beat me and I played horrible. Dallas is still playing and Cardones back is gone and he quit in the last couple yrs. I think Kimmer is playing under Varner in all games, maybe cept nine ball.

Varner....
Yup. Pretty sporty.

It gets pretty frustrating to watch your game diminish. I’ve experienced it myself at 73 and it’s difficult to not be able to play at a level that I once played at.

For the pro level guys it’s got to be that much worse. Being unable to pot balls that once seemed to find the pocket on their own has got to hurt. Combine that with the loss of income and it’s got to be just awful to deal with..

Getting old ain’t easy, hope y’all get a chance at it. I’m having mine as we speak!!!

i just get bigger spots and win faster than before when i bother to play.
who cares how good you play unless you are a top player and have to play even or always give weight.

that is what matching up is all about.

I know the feeling I'm 79 and playing about 75% of prime.
While playing one pocket I now pass on some hard shots that in the 80's I would not have hesitated to shoot.

in his Legends of the Cue interview, Billy Incardona said he can't play any more due to physical problems- I think he said his back bothers him too much

He does play well still, even with his tremor, but it is hard to believe that his Fargo is accurate. I would think his ability level is now more accurately assessed to be in the low 700s

there's an entire thread dedicated to his fargo. i think the latest recorded game was 5 years ago or something

efren is at 763. i believe efren was 69 y.o. when he placed 3rd in DCC one pocket. he still pops up in filipino youtube streams playing rotation games. it's always a treat to watch

Keith McCready will be joining the 70+ club in another year. I’m guessing he still plays pretty sporty?

As a generality, at least for myself, the older you get (especially past 60) the closer you have to play your position to the object ball and the better you have to get at playing defense.

I know Varner played in some of the recent Ultimate Pool events and performed decently. Still plays well on bar tables at least and I would imagine he still plays well in one pocket matches.

Hard pill to swallow.

In the Legends of the Cue podcast interview a few months ago, Keith stated he can't really play any more due to an eye condition- I think he has macular degeneration

When your rep overshadows your current ability, everybody uses the rep as a guideline when trying to match up.
You might catch a gear or have that 'night' and take it all. Nobody 'Gambles' anymore.
It's not called 'sure thing.' Supposed to be a 'gamble.'
