Us mail is the worst! 😖

I just want to again, rain on everyone's parade, and remind you that US government mail delays are literally a First World problem.

Your mail wasn't blatantly stolen by the carrier.

It is much worse in other countries.

Who cares.. I don’t live in other countries. That’s why people float on garbage across and ocean of sharks to get here because we are better then them.

I once shipped cues overnight express from Boston to Florida (Manzino). Day 1 they were in Nashua NH, Day 2 they were in Burlington VT! I walk over to the post office with the print out and explain that I do not have a degree in geography but if something is supposed to be heading south...why is it travelling north? Got some bs answer that maybe it was accidentally sorted as ground, which still didn't make sense, asked them to call the VT post office facility to locate my package because I was ready to drive up there to retrieve it and then somehow it arrived the next day?!?!

ive found if you label your package with a clear address and instructions and package it so its easily to handle, then all services deliver well.

if you use your third grade school writing on your package you get third grade delivery.

Just use PirateShip. No monthly fee. They check the address and fill in the details. They offer you several options. Then they give you the label to print with a bar code and tell you the tracking number that you can copy and paste to email. They keep track of all the rate changes.

The other fun thing is you sign up for the text messages and emails and get instant updates and it works for 1 update and that’s it lol

Can not tell you how many times I've ordered stuff that was sent USPS PRIORITY that made it to the sorting facility in Glendale AZ, approx 50 miles from my house, and I was thinking that I should receive it the following day........NOPE!
From Glendale it goes to Avondale which is also on the west side of Phoenix....next stop it shows up in Los Angeles...next stop Dallas....next stop back to Avondale, AGAIN! So far this has added an additional 7-10 days on the trip. And finally it arrives to my address.
No flippin wonder this business is allegedly losing money with the incompetence associated with the work force. Many businesses would relieve workers for being so inept.
$10 for small priority flat rate box. Give me an FN break!
FedEx...not much better. UPS has been my go to for sometime now. Not perfect but I have more confidence in them and the rates aren't too bad.
Pirate ship is the only way to fly.

I'm fine with USPS, but it's so regionally dependent. Some areas are really bad, some are great.
I *despise* FedEx. I know i've posted this in other threads here, but I've had so many expensive packages (bike parts mostly) show up damaged. It's like they're testing the packaging engineers....

Preference is UPS, DHL (infrequent), USPS, drive and pick it up myself, ... , FedEx.

FedEx is the worst. All my Packages and I mean All of them. Start out with a expected delivery in 3 days shown on tracking at the start. By the time it gets to my house the delivery date has been change 3-4 times, and arrives in 6-10 days. Everytime, all packages. Been like this for several years. I call the the Honey Badgers of shippers because they don't give a s$$T.

I think it's wrong to blame the workers. If management is not monitoring the paths items take, and keeping track of shipping accuracy, they are not doing their jobs. The system should flag every late delivery, and causes need to be found and fixed. If they do not fix the system, they need to get new management.

There is also a cost consideration. Mailing a letter USPS costs 82 cents (today) for one stamp. The other services don't come close to that for letters, they don't even offer that. Shipping a package (by retail prices) is much less on USPS compared to the other services.

You get what you pay for. Don't expect the same level of tracking and service and routing.

Had a carbon wheelset for my mountain bike disappear for a day. Tracker said delivered, wasn't there, no image. I called them and they said "just wait until tomorrow and it should show up"... It's a $2500 package!!! Dafuq you talking about?

Totally agree with this!!

Bob, I agree 100% but I include management as part of the work force also.
Every situation always starts from the top good or bad IMO.
The atmosphere is toxic at the PO. I speak with my driver every chance I can and give him a tip for going above and beyond with my packages.
His substitute....not so much. He's one of those that has the personality of a clump of dead grass.

federal employees and union ones which are a major part of the delivery system are high near impossible to fire, so its hard to put pressure on them to work differently.

and packages have to go through many hands and places to get there and that with present amounts is a tough one.

I know.. I bought it on eBay and wasn’t given a choice. The guy gave me a tracking number within the hour. I remember back int he day when they had 2 to 3 day priority mail and it was fantastic
Pretty sure you could of contacted the seller and they could have changed the service. I think lots of sellers just take the default but have the choice when setting up the ad.

Bad service from the post office used to be a running gag it wasn't really true. The fact is it was amazing how well they perform with the amount of mail they handle. Unfortunately that's changed. Many local post office operate on skeleton Crews.

I do a lot of shipping and I track everything and I use the post office. It's not unusual to see something not even leave my local post office for 2 or 3 days before it's even in the system. That's not a mistake that's just policy they don't care.

Priority Mail used to be two to three days guaranteed. Now it guarantees nothing. I've shipped priority Mail within my own State traveling no more in a few hundred miles and have it take 5 days. That's just the way it is like my father used to say nothing is forever and things change.

UPS to a degree isn't much better. I've had them throw packages over my fence and they land in a puddle of water. They really don't give a s***.

I've stopped shipping out of country entirely unless they provide me with a Us address. One of those services that handle international shipping.

My worst USPS experience..... I ordered some Nissan Z parts from Japan; very rare Z32 trim pieces that are pretty much non-existent anymore. Shipped DHL in Japan and made it from Japan to CA overnight. So yea, all excited that it didn't get lost between countries. DHL handed it over to USPS once it cleared customs and assigned it a domestic tracking number....ok, no biggie. It was trekking right along until it got to Kansas City, and bam; disappeared. Days went by....nothing. Weeks went by....nothing... When it hit 30 days, they could then report it as 'lost' (ya think?) and put out a trace for it. Another month or so went by.....nothing.

At that point they would no longer deal with me, it was up to the seller/shipper to file the paperwork for the claim. Seller did, and going through DHL to USPS added even more headache. Seller didn't have any more of the pieces, so he refunded my money....Fair enough even though I'd have rather had the parts.....but I guess that's life.

Fast forward another month or two.....out of the blue arrives a cardboard tube with a whole bunch of weird labeling on it.....by then I had forgotten all about these parts.....so I had no clue what this was. Open it up and tada!! My trim!! WTF!! The seller had already refunded me, so I reached out to tell him it finally arrived and in good condition; I'm happy to pay him for the pieces. He said to forget it, the USPS insurance paid him for the loss and to just keep it.... 🤷‍♂️ So great, $500 worth of rare trim parts I didn't have to pay for...and the seller didn't take a loss on... USPS absorbed this one.... Bizarre way to operate a business....but if one ever questions it, the default answer is: Welcome to Government work; who's motto is: "If it aint broke, fix it till it is!"

The above said, I operated a business for ~20yrs where I mailed out small 5x7 padded envelopes containing electronics components via USPS first class mail. Of the 10's of thousands of these I sent, only one got lost.

Dude had it shipped with in an hour and I really didn’t think about it

So update lol they found it in Washington on wednesday and got it shipped to Harrisburg .. it made it to york by friday morning and was out for delivery with a 1-5 delivery window. At 5 it still wasn’t here and the window changed to it would be here by 610. At 603 it said do to inclement weather my package couldn’t be delivered. I guess they are referring to the smoke from the Canada fires. 🙄 now it hasn’t updated and I have no idea when it’s coming . I’m waiting for a call back from the post office now.
