7 and the Last two

So many damn questions.

Are we including the 9 as the last two?
It can possibly be 5,6,7 if the 8 is off the table if we don't include the 9
People can hear this as 7 out.

I could go on and on.

The key with this game is the rules need to be clear.
I can't remember if you are in the USA or not, but the "last 2" always includes the 9. Its very well understood and clear in gambling circles in the USA.

If the spot is the 7 AND the last 2 the answer is YES
So looks like i spoke out of turn and do not know what I am talking about. Played many times growing up and playing it wrong I suppose. Was given the 7 and last 2 and all I had to do was make the 7 or if the 7 was no longer in play make all the balls on the table where only 2 balls were remaining for the WIN. Sorry just dumb or how we played. I guess proper definition of rules before breaking balls recommended

Well the way you wrote it in this post is correct. "where only 2 balls were remaining for the win". But the way you wrote it in your first post was not. I'm guessing you played it right just mis-typed or had a brain fart on the first post?

I heard this story 3rd hand when the discussion was "how strong is the last 2?"...

Jimmy Fusco (a pro out of Philly in the 70's/80's) was gambling another pro and got beat quite badly. They played even. The next session they adjusted to Jimmy getting the last 2, and now Jimmy won easily.

Of course we all expect a pro to win the game if they are on the 8. But that's not reality. How many times in a set does a pro make the 8 and dog the 9? I bet it could happen 1-2 times per set. That's a 2-4 game swing if that player was getting the last 2. Now go down to the mortal ranks of lets say 600 speed players, and the last 2 becomes quite strong.

Seriously? On what planet would anyone take this to mean the '7 out'?? For the last time: in this spot the 7b is wild. ALSO, legally making either of the last two balls left( in 9b the 9 would have to be there. right????) Say the spotter makes the 7b, the spottee still has the 'last two' meaning either of the last two remaining balls wins if it gets to that.

So everybody "gets" the 9-ball?

In the context that "getting" that ball means you win the rack if you make it, then ... yes? How is my league-hacker ass having to explain this? It's kinda the fundamental rule of 9-ball.

You know what's even more funny, almost all the tournaments these days are handicapped by game spots instead of ball spots due to FargoRate. Most of the local younger players in my area I don't think have even heard of the last 2, or last 3, or orange crush. I think most of them have not even played with normal ball spots like the 8.

sorry, no.

Unless both players are bad, like can't run out 5 balls with ball in hand bad. If both players are competent then the last 2 is just merely an incentive to play v not play.

The problem with a call-Ball (7 or 8) or a wild 7 or 8 is they can be made by the player giving that two you at any time during the game. The last two are there until the end of every game so you always have Action at your Money.

Corey Deuel said that the spot seldom comes up between good players, as does Roberto and Jeremy Jones, so this isn't about two guys that can't run 5 balls. With todays 4'' or 4 1/4'' pockets few people are running all the way out so having your Money balls the entire game is a big advantage.

for those who still dont get it
the reason last 2 spot is not so big
is because if the good player gets to the second to last ball he will get to the 9 most of the time
and since the better player will be the one running balls more often he will get to the second to last ball before the weaker player does
if you cant run out you shouldnt be spotting people... ;)

I think everyone agrees the last 2 is about the weakest spot in pool (talking about ball spots). But it still means something and can easily come into play 10-20% of the games for even GOOD players. For bangers, it can come into play way more.

A banger like me, for example, I can't count how many times I've made the 8 and dogged the 9. Must be thousands.

it hardly ever really comes into play where it is also the deciding factor on who wins that game.

unless bad players, then its in play often as they regularly miss good position on the next shot.

and in all cases where the game is close, the player that is just having a better day becomes the favorite to win.

especially in a longer session which always favor the player with the best chances.
