The ONLY place on the table you don't concede when giving up BIH

It’s delicate, but you can hook them on the point potentially. I tried it with the OB frozen with about a quarter ball overlapping the side pocket opening. Give yourself maybe 10 degrees of angle with the cueball on the opposite side of the pocket and hit a very soft shot approximately full ball. You need the cueball to barely get the rail but if you do you get a corner hook. Try it at home and see if I’m crazy or set it up wrong.

it's damn sensitive but i like it. here's alex higgins playing it on a snooker table:

Because then he puts the cue ball on the side pocket shelf and shoots the nine straight into the upper right corner. :ROFLMAO:
Bob this came up tonight. Player has BIH and does exactly what you are saying, putting the CB inside the pocket on the shelf to shoot outwards on a ball. Suppose while placing the CB there while the player still has it "in hand", he drops the CB in the pocket and it scratches. No ball is touched. Is it a foul? We were split at the pool hall. I said no foul.

No foul, any more than if it was dropped on the floor. Dropped on a ball is a foul, even under some BIH rules.
