Phoenix Open - August 18-22

Kledio Kaci should never get on the TV table if there is no shot clock
He can't ever be slower than Eklent, so that's at least a positive. Played that last few racks at a decent speed. Though I feel that might have had something to do with Tyler realizing he was bested.

Been watching Phoenix. First a general comment. This is basically a glorified pool room tournament and they've atttacted a world class field. That said there are more good players than ever before. All these guys know their way around the table, and that's why we see so many upsets.

They all still do hang up a ball on these tight pockets but the majority of errors I see are tactical in nature. Poorly thought out safeties and a lot of these guys have trouble with the push shot. I see them occassionally playing safe when they shoot be shooting and vice versa. What really surprises me is when someone pounds a hard shot and of course the pocket spits it out. That's a high speed choke!

DeLuna is playing the best he has in over two years. He's got himself back in shape. The kid Roberts played good against Johnny. Johnny acquitted himself well too. I've always liked Chung's game. Not one to be taken lightly.

This should be a rip roaring U.S. Open with all this talent here.

Watched the Shane Kazakis match (fast forwarding past the lengthy Kazakis pauses). Shane missing easy shots (for him) throughout. Frost was stunned. He completely missed getting the cue ball up on a jump shot. And then he actually missed the rack on a break shot and it ended up barely hitting it on the way back up the table. Pretty strange stuff.
He followed the missed break with a golden break and was back on his game after that... but that was rack 14.
Pretty wild stuff.

To be fair, the jump shot looked to be extremely tough…the break shot though, that was unbelievable. Kind of funny that Shane ended up winning that rack. Karl Boyes quote was great: “if you’re just joining us tonight, we are playing 9 ball here folks believe it or not”

shane is excused of anything that transpired after that peter ebdon-like treatment
I love watching Shane, but his poor play started in the first rack, continued in the second rack, then the third, all the way to the 14th rack. It had nothing to do with Kazakis...

What a stacked field for such a small prize fund. Nice to be the tuneup for the US Open.

That rack by Shane was nuts. Missed entirely. Cue ball bounced off the long rail and cracked into the rack, but just barely. Looked like a one-pocket rack, and it did no favors for Kazakis.

The losers bracket today is filled with huge matches. Mosconi/Reyes Cup points on the line!

Chang Yu Lung played one hell of a match against Fedor. This wasn't Fedor failing. Chang hit some unbelievable shots.
A little under the radar, but YL Chang is a superb player, a guy you never want in your draw. He was bronze medalist at the 2019 US Open 9ball, which may have been the toughest US Open 9ball field we have ever seen.
