CJ Wiley: flat earther

I grew up watching the old legends (not Lassiter old, but Earl, Buddy, Sigel, Varner, Hopkins old). When I watch their videos now, it's pretty obvious how superior today's top guys are. While they certainly played well enough to take a set of someone like Filler, in a long race, they would stand absolutely no chance.
The old matches are a hell of a lot more entertaining to watch, though.

You talk like humans woke up one day able to do those things thousands of years ago. Even simple tools took a very long time to develop.

If our modern technology were taken away tomorrow we would develope and use simple technologies and tools MUCH faster than originally by those thousands of years ago. In fact, most of it still exists anyway.

Their technical abilities accumulated over time just like ours. We are currently developing much faster than ancient humans did or even could.
Technology is developing faster than ever.

i completely agree with you

and to the people who say pool used to be more entertaining to watch, and they prefer the old days over the current (you’ve heard the insults, ‘boring’ ‘robots’ ‘identical’) top pros-

those guys you mentioned often missed shots they shouldn’t miss BECAUSE they played it “entertainingly”

i’ve watched accustats videos of mike lebron and his ‘amazing’ break that hurt my whole body so bad that my stomach hurt

to each their own i am a student of the game and i learn alot more watching any of those guys with unpronounceable and unspellable names from poland because not even mccready can teach you how to mccready

"If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants" -Sir Isaac Newton, 1675

It is only because of the old legends that the bar was raised. They would also be great today, had they lived a few decades later and still taken up pool. They would benefit from those who came before, just like today's actual players do. It's the game that's improved. Imagine if Willies Hoppe and Mosconi had access to https://drdavepoolinfo.com/ early in their playing career. To keep up with the best in any activity typically requires one to utilize all of the training resources available. Today's players just have better learning and training resources than the old masters had.

Anybody that has the knowledge and skills to make touch of inside work has the knowledge and skills to not need it.

I used TOO for years, a touch of outside to minimize throw. The world didn't end. I used touch of inside too, whatever the shot needed. Heavy inside english and follow have gotten uncommon enough that I was having people jump out of their chair when the ball didn't behave as expected. All of these things are just tools to break out as needed.

If a shot benefits from a little inside I will use it. Making it the default thing to use feels like a crutch, and a handicap!

Whatever gets somebody through the night! It's all good if it works for you.

Well said Hu.

All this just because CJ espoused his belief in a long ago debunked theory.

Homo Sapiens from thousands of years ago were physically just like us. They had the ability to think, research and create just like us. We stand on their shoulders.

In many ways they there smarter than us, and had to be. They had no sophisticated technology to help them. They used brainpower and sheer strength to build these amazing edifices. Take away all our modern tools and what could we build today. It might take us hundreds of years to duplicate what they created using their native intelligence. So who's smarter. I'm not so sure.

20,000 years from now our generation will be considered to have been primitive. Of coure by then we will be more like machines and a little less human. Implants everywhere! Need a new organ, you buy one.
Too many things get lost in generational turn over.

Back when I noticed such things I had a Cro-Magnon man working for me. When I looked around I saw more people that had the identical skull and bone structure of the cave men we see in the books. They are still all among us.

Hu
You can see neanderthal traits in those guys with the heavy brows, stocky build who eat anything and never have heart issues.

Well to be specific, Cro-Magnons are us, H. sapiens. We outcompeted the neanderthals due to our increased cranium (bigger brain), although more and more evidence supports that interbreeding between the species was common. But yes, there is still plenty of neanderthal DNA in those of european ancestry.
There I go. Spouting off B4 reading thru the damn column. I'll never learn. Must be the neanderthal in me.
Wife always said I was a cave man.🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes, DNA research has proven that we tagged pretty much anything we could catch!

Another possible throwback, I went to school with a boy three years or so younger nicknamed Apey. Even the teachers called him that. The reason was simple, when he ran he ran naturally on his knuckles. By the third grade or so they had pretty much broke him of the habit. Always wondered how it developed to begin with. I heard he walked on feet and knuckles after crawling and before walking erect. True or not, I don't know. I do know he would go flying down the halls on feet and knuckles!

Hu
Is it true that more than 25% of the people on earth have Ghengis Khan's DNA??
That guy got around!!
I'm envious.

How long did it take humans to learn to start a fire? Humans existed for approximately 2.4 million years before actively starting fire. Modern humans didn't wake up one day able to do it.

How long would it take one of us to figure it out?
I'd be eating cold cuts for a long damn time.
