looks like plastic to me.Really? It looks like ivory to me. It just has a lot of patina and finish over it. I can see what looks like end grain in the photo below.

Really? I looked as close as i could and it still looks like plastic. Those 'end grain' pics still look synthetic. The side view is tough because the finish is so yellowed. Some Shreger line pics. I just don't see this in the op's cue: https://www.google.com/search?clien...S1VNMsQtKgLegQIEBAB&biw=1408&bih=653&dpr=1.36I see schreger lines in the butt cap, so I think someone wasted a piece of ivory. It definitely screams JW copy and if I had to guess, I would say Richard Phillippi.

The way this is cracking, and I still think they are schreger lines, I think it is natural. I think the cue is US made and this is an early Phillippi and he used a light engraved P which often faded.Really? I looked as close as i could and it still looks like plastic. Not tyring to fight ya over this but i've seen plastic get yellow and crack exactly like this. The side pics of the butt cap should have easily seen lines if it was ivory. I've only had a couple cues with iv. caps but i have had lots of cues with iv. ferrules, hoppe rings, inlays and all had easily seen lines/grain. Not having the cue in hand makes this really hard to say for certain. The way this is cracking, and I still think they are schreger lines, I think it is natural. Agree. This bastard of cue started as one thing and after multiple 'surgeries' ended up here. One thing for sure: this ain't no Joss.I will say this.... I believe the joint was messed with heavily. Look at the shaft insert. That was filled and retapped. This thing most likely started life with a different pin. The buttcap also looks to be replaced, and the dots appear to be added.

Well I have never seen plastics commonly used on vintage cues, end up like this. But I haven't seen everything... so no problems. Not tyring to fight ya over this but i've seen plastic get yellow and crack exactly like this. Thank you. It's not a Phillippi.
I'm not going to argue over who did what, and who didn't, or the rings or any of it..... but, this cue has aspects from several builders. It's a "mutt". During the cue boom in the early 2000's there were some VERY unscrupulous cue hacks that would buy just and "rebuild" them, then sell them as whatever..... I really think that this is one of those old scumbag specials.
niiiiiiiiiiiiice.Maybe its a Joss Least...

6,000bux. Good luck with that. Nice cue but that price is insane. For reference, I stumbled upon this old Joss with the same flat-faced 5/15x18 joint.

I have a vast amount of estate items I've bought over the last 35 plus years. Some are recent purchases and many are decades old. There are fewer and fewer estate auctions than there were in years past. Items are becoming much harder to find. If you purchase this item, I hope you are happy and...www.ebay.com
Its very possible the cue is a Helmstetter made by Adam Cues in Japan.
Hot needle test the butt cap on the inside and you will know if it's ivory or notThank you.
The cue came from the son of the original owner. The son claims that his father had it made… I don’t know when. The son lives in Idaho… I don’t know where the father lived or had lived. He did serve in the Vietnam War.
That’s what I know. It comes from the person from whom I bought the cue from… I may see if I can be put in touch with the son.
I appreciate that you reached out to Phillippi.
Thanks again.
