"Star LA chef who doubles as one of America’s best pool players"...NOT!!!

Depending on how you look at it, the best "two career" examples would be minor Hollywood actor to U. S. President (Ronald Reagan) or College Basketball superstar / NBA star to three term U. S. Senator (Bill Bradley).

I cook, but I’m not sure I could tell the difference between an average professional chef and “one of America's best.” According to Mike Page, the median Fargo rating is 471, so 482 is right there, but I would bet that to the average person reading that article, this guy’s pool skills would probably seem pretty impressive. I’m guessing the average person reading the article doesn’t have a Fargo rating. For the record, I don’t have a Fargo rating, but I play chess, which has a long established rating system. When I last played in tournaments, 20 years ago, my USCF rating was around 1300, which is pretty low. Whenever I play someone outside the chess community, a friend or acquaintance, I tend to win the vast majority of games. They seem to think I’m some sort of grandmaster. When I play online, I get beat frequently.

Great read! A chef in the restaurant and a player in the poolroom, driven by the same passion in both worlds.

Professional pool is just a microcosm compared to the vast world of league players and social shooters. It’s always refreshing to read about someone who’s truly devoted to their craft, yet still makes time to enjoy what they love just as much. And that’s pool.
One of the things that I always loved about this game, pool halls, is the cast of characters that frequent them, and play this game. I’ve gambled with Butchers, Lawyers, Plumbers, Pimps, Doctors, Drug Dealers, Cabbies, people from all walks of life. While from many different walks of life, and lifestyle's, in the pool hall none of those differences matter, it’s all about the game that they all love. Oh, and of course, whether you bet respectable sums of money 🤑.

What I want to know more about are these balls. He has a few of them in his Gold Crown. Never seen one like this before.
