Best GOAT moment of all time

ive never seen anyone run a full rack of banks in one inning all 15 balls. as they are never open completely.

only heard of a few that did it or maybe did it.

In 14.1, on reflection, Nick Varner's first World 14.1 championship in 1980 represents one of the highest points pro pool ever reached.

In 1979, an upstart had beaten the legendary Joe Balsis to win his first World 14.1 championship. That upstart was named Mike Sigel. Surely, Nick Varner couldn't top pool's newest superstar, or could he? In a race to 200, Nick beat Mike in the final of the 1980 World 14.1 Championship and one of the greatest rivalries in the history of our sport was born.

I was present for both of these events, but the magnitude of these moments didn't come into full focus until I saw what these two were to accomplish.

yea that is part of why no or few games got there. i remember someone seeing and i confirmed joey spaeth ran out a whole rack once.
and rotation slim supposedly did it. but way before my time.
but a bunch also ran most of them but the ones left usually were not bankable for a mortal.

i dont know too much about the bankers in the mid south where most were what some of them may have done.

balsis was almost an old man near 60 when mike beat him. although mike might have been as good as when he was young.

but the game was changing with the cloth as they opened the balls up more.

I was there and Balsis, who was 59 and still playing like a champion, was the betting favorite over Mike.

Not a moment, but:

Nick Varner held the world titles in 9-Ball, Banks, Straight Pool, 1-Pocket and 8-Ball!
All as a perfect gentleman representative for our sport.
As we said in my younger days, that’s pretty frisky!

For me, it has to be one of Ronnie's many amazing moments.

Probably the most impressive one (again, for me) was when he won the 2012 WC, took an entire year of from competitive Snooker, came back and won it again the following year.

For me in pool, got to be efren in 99 running 9 racks in the semis against bustamante, seeing that at the time was just incredible.
In snooker over the years, ronnie has so many moments but like double-dave said, taking a year off and winning it again, was amazing. His 147 is also up there.

Ronnie O'Sullivan making a 153 is another World record. He ain't done with a chance at 8 World Championship titles still available.
Ronnie holds the record of 7 along with Stephen Hendry.
In less than an hour that quest resumes in the World Championship.
Definitely will be watching, definitely. 🤷‍♂️

When you think about all the great billiard disciplines, and who stood above all in a moment in time, what's your pick?
A. Choose from any game that's played in the green felts.

Snooker
Banks
3 Cushion
14.1
Rotation
10 Ball
9 Ball
8 Ball

My pick would have to be, This man/moment.

Knoxville Bear....
Eddie Taylor.
I talked to him, face to face at the BCA trade show, early 200's.

He.... broke and ran 4 racks of nine ball, then broke the 5th and made one more bank.
37 in a row.

This record, will never be beaten.

I think humanity has a better chance of dying by a meteor hit.

B. Can ANYONE top this moment in time, in ANY sport?
Fernando Tatis hitting 2 grand slams in the same inning….. off the same pitcher!!

For me personally it was watching Efren beat Busti, Parica, and then Cliff back-to-back-to-back to win DCC 1p in '07. Surreal display of pool. He beat(iirc) Busti 3-0(24balls to nada), Parica 3-0(24 to -1) and then Cliff 3 games to one. Insane.
Was that the year accustats had to do 2 for 1 on the dvd coz efrens matches were so quick?

Yep....could have been more than one year!

no you knock in the hanging ball along with your bank shot so it gets spotted and you have a possible bank on it. if its the last ball. other wise it gets spotted after your inning for the other player.

Hearing Kaci do 8 b&r in ten ball was quite a feat.
But 37 banks.... in a row. come on....

Just a quick word on Ronnie’s fastest maximum… I think it has now been accepted as 5 minutes 8 seconds rather than the previous time of 5 minutes 20 seconds.

The reason for the difference is starting the clock when he first struck the cueball instead of when it came to rest after his opponent’s shot.

On the subject of the best GOAT moment. Forgive me for straying away from billiards, but my favourite was Jack Nicklaus telling Johnny Miller “just putt it.”

When you put it like that, that one is going to be tough to beat. That 9 rack run in 99 was my favourite though. made me want to practice😄
Watchin' Earl at CJ's run the 10 pack, + 1 more against Nick Mannino was special.
