    Router Question ??

I was cleaning out my fathers shop a couple of weeks ago and came across a neat device for the lathe. I think its a die grinder holder. It mounts to the compound just like a tool post would. I believe its for the grinder in the second picture (I do not own one yet). My question is can they use...

Why would cue makers want to skimp????

LOL, I know what you mean. I have about 20 machines in my shop right now. 12 of which are mine and the rest are stuff I am breaking down for parts or restoring for resale. Did I mention my shop is a 1 car garage! Thanks Dave. Plastic has its place in the world, just not on my tools! Well...

Why would cue makers want to skimp????

Michael, you must have a big shop. Even smaller table saws take up space. John, believe it or not the catalog lists this combo unit at 509 lbs including the motor. The 10" saw alone is 196 lbs (without the guard). Not bad since the current Ryobi 10" saw complete is 76 lbs. LOL, I should be...

Why would cue makers want to skimp????

I am not speaking from any cuemaker experience. But I only buy cheap tools period! Machines as well as smaller tools like routers and such. However, I try not to buy anything newer then 1965. I just bought this 1950's Delta 10" TS & 6" Jointer today for 40 bucks. She just needs a little...

    Live Center

I agree with Paul, I have many live centers. New and vintage, import and USA. Never spent that much money on them. With that said I always reach for the Skoda or a vintage Grand (made in Germany). I also like Royal, there expensive but somtimes you can get them used for a good price. -Jason

    Metal lathe questions

What brand & if possible model # is the lathe. I believe South Bend 13" and up are all at least 1 3/8 threw hole. Most usually are when you get to the 13"+ range. J

    mini lathe question

Dave, if your going the 101 lathe route let me know what parts you need. I dont have much in stock right now but I get them often. If there is something you need asap. I can make a few calls. Dont forget a 101 only has a threw hole of 17/32". That is if its a 6" model. The general statment of...

    Feeler Turret Lathe FTS-27

Does that mean never touched by human hands? Seriously though, that is one fine machine! I believe those are called second operation lathes. Not really sure what the term means though.

    Lathe Opinions needed.....

Well, after this post I scraped those plans with the second bed and went with an old craftsman 12 x 36 lathe I had in storage. Hopefully I can do everything I need to with that lathe. I dont have it out of storage yet but I believe the threw hole is 25/32 on those.

    Lathe Opinions needed.....

OIC, very interesting. So thats why, the big carriage. Ok, I checked and I do have a Craftsman 12" x 36" Lathe, a real clean one too. Non quick change but it has a taper attachment. 3 jaw chuck, a set of gears and a steady rest (non ball bearing). So if I switch to a ball bearing steady rest...

    Lathe Opinions needed.....

I think I have 2 Craftsman 12 x 36 lathes kicking around somewhere. But I thought you need 40" between centers for cue work? BTW Nice lathe you got there, I have not seen a headstock cover like that before on an Atlas lathe.

    Lathe Opinions needed.....

I dont know all the aspects of cue making but from what I have seen so far I think its long enough. That dowel in the lathe is 3'. The total bed lenght is 5'. From spindle to sleeve of tailstock is 47 1/2". It would be longer but there is a gap in the bed where the old headstock was that I can...
