    Stupid Question?

Twenty-three thousandths of a millimeter is pretty small, I agree. It is still an unnecessary margin of error that can easily be avoided. I used thousandths of an inch as an example. If one starts with hundredths of an inch, then the potential error is almost a quarter of a millimeter. My...

    Stupid Question?

For best results, get a quality digital caliper that measures in millimeters. Conversions aren't bad going from mm to inches, but don't work well going the other way, since you can't manufacture more precision than you had with the original measurement. 0.001 inches really means somewhere...

Bob Frey Cocobolo Sneaky Pete FS

There is a very small amount of discoloration of the the ferrule immediately below the tip, but it was there prior to the Moori being installed. I'm not sure what it is from, but I can only see it, not feel it, so it has never been a source of concern to me.

    Cue weight

The tip's tendency to move up or down is a function of where the stroking arm is in its pendulum motion. Assuming a level stroke is being used, If the cue contacts the before the arm is perpendicular to the floor, the tip will be moving upward and forward at time of contact. If contact occurs...

Will a real cue maker step forward?

Out of curiosity, what woods did you use? It would seem that dense, old growth shaft wood, very dense forearm wood, slightly less dense point wood, even less dense handle wood, and relatively low density wood in the butt sleeve, with a low density butt cap all would combine to make a cue with a...

Thanks for the kind words, Cliff. Hopefully we can meet up and play while you're down here. Perhaps I'll make a better showing. I've been practicing. :) I like the Frey and would like to keep it, but textbooks are looking pretty nice right about now.

    Deflection, squirt, whatever

Since no one else has answered... Yes, all else being equal, a 12 mm shaft will be lower deflection than a 13 mm shaft, since the end mass will be less. Having said that, the benefit will be minimal, and will come with trade offs.

New Cue (Filipino Custom) Opinions wanted.

Some of the differences I noticed were that this cue has more grain showing in the pics than does the one on Mr. McDaniel's website. This cue also has sharp pointed inlays, while the horseshoe cue appears to have rounded inlays. It's tough to find any cue that hits well and comes with two...

    Too good for the APA

While I play in BCA, and not APA, I do believe that the APA has a superior handicapping system when it comes to comparing two players from different regions. It's not perfect, by any means, but utilizing innings and safeties played gives a better objective idea of a player's ability than just...

    What are "points"

Points can be labor intensive for the cue maker. Some also claim that a cue with spliced points (as opposed to inlayed points) is less likely to warp in the forearm area, so there is a practical reason for their existence beyond decoration.

I have a friend with one too many cues. He is willing to sell one of the following, but not both. One is a Bludworth custom cue with lots of intricate ivory inlay work. Wood is nice cocobolo. All white is ivory, including the butt cap, joint, and ferrules. Cue is in very good condition, but...

    Why did you START playing?

Just after I turned four my parents bought a new house that came with a (very low-end) pool table. At first I "played" by being held up to the table and I tried to hand roll object balls towards the pockets. Soon I had progressed to being able to stand on a step stool and using a small cue to...

    Ginnis Type Record in Pool

It is odd that, according to the WPA / BCA rules, if you sink all of one group on the break, the table is still open and you have no option but to shoot at the other group. What a waste of a great break!
