    Need Tap

If you're talking about the 3/8-10 flat bottomed pin, a standard tap will work as long as the minor diameter of your hole is .308 or larger. This "different" 3/8-10 pin uses EXACTLY the same tooling as the original 3/8-10 pin except the minor diameter is bored to .308 concentric with the OD of...

No idea. Cue hit nicely before the "accident". Here's a pic.

    5/16 pins- 14 or 18 better???

Actually, since the minor diameter on a 14 pitch screw is smaller than that of an 18 pitch screw, I'd say the 14 pitch would be easier to bend.

Has anyone ever seen an A-Joint like this? I think it is a early Huebler!!

There was no tenon. Just a register diameter for alignment, a gap between the faces & a thin walled phenolic sleeve - joined with a 3/8-16 pin. Don't know if he still does it but I know the cue played great before it was broken in anger over a $30 game. I see nothing wrong with that style of...

Show your split diamonds & Bushka rings

I realize the veneer colors aren't the nicest mesh with the ebony/ivory in the buttsleeve but I'm hoping that the clear will darken the sapele forearm & tie in the warm colors better. If it doesn't, I'll have to let the cue go real cheap and write it off as a lesson learned :-)...

I believe it was made in the early 90s.

Thanks Joe. It's tough coming up with something different.

this might surprise some of you I have a broken Mottey 4 pointer that uses a thin-walled phenolic buzz ring at the A joint. But then, what does he know? Go figure. PS No, it didn't break at the A joint.

    Agh, Why Not?!?!?

Arggh, why not indeed! I guess I'll respond. Not trying to single you out by responding to your post, KJ, but your list is easier to reply to: I put the decals on upside down because I can. The white blotches are in the wood itself. If you look closely, you can see that the blotchiness is...

    Storing shafts and butts

I agree that wood should be stored in real life conditions. If the wood remains straight in that environment, it should remain straight forever. It just doesn't make sense to store & machine your wood in a climate controlled room for a year or two or three, then expect it to maintain its...

BEM or unstained maple cues with white hoppe ring...

Here's a curly maple cue I made many moons ago that has a Hoppe "style" buttcap. http://www.dzcues.com/images/cc10.jpg and another that's not a plain jane but the buttcap is closer to the traditional Hoppe proportions. http://www.dzcues.com/images/fflame%20web%2001.jpg

    Shaft cuter

Just picking nits here: doubling the radius only doubles the surface speed. I suspect you are confusing the relationship between diameter & area. If you double the diameter, the area increases by a factor of 4. If you triple the diameter, the area increases by a factor of 9. And just to...

    Anyone need turquoise block?

This was originally a 6" cube that I cut into 1/4" & 1/8" slabs. (This was from about 10 yrs ago when you couldn't find the nicely slabbed material that is available today.) I cut it on my Delta wood cutting bandsaw. It likes coolant - a squirt from a spray bottle now & then suffices - and...

I found this block of reconstituted webbed turquoise while rearranging furniture the other day. I have no use for it and wondered if anyone here was interested. I'm not sure what this is worth but any reasonable offer plus $10 shipping will be accepted. I apologize if I've violated a policy...

    Ivorine lll vs lV

If you're making a short (3/8" - 7/16") carom ferrule, you almost HAVE to make it a sleeve type ferrule rather than capped. Otherwise you lose too much glue surface. And if you're making a thin wall sleeve type ferrule, it HAS to be made from mandrel wound tubing - NOT flat sheet - if you...
