Cue making and the Kung Fu Panda

I done the same thing with one of the exclusive makers' cues. It had a broken joint and I was digging aroumd the "A" joint to see what makes his cues tick. He had drilled and tapped up into the forearm about 5 inches and the bolt he used only went about an inch up leaving about a 4 inch hollow...

    Broken cue warranty???

I've seen several cues break like this and it's always been due to abuse or by an abusive player. The break might happen today but the damage might have been done weeks before. Miss a ball, smack the cue on the table, create a crack. Play for several weeks until the crack becomes a break, then...

    Stan Shuffett

I wish that Stan was giving lessons 25 years ago when I started playing. You're only an hour or so away, make an appointment with Stan and put what he shows you to practice and you will improve. Instruction will cut years off your learning. Take advantage of it if you're serious about improving.

Does it say something about a cuemaker if his point work or veneers don't line up?

Like others have already said, it depends on what you're looking for. I strive to get my points even but haven't had any that I would consider perfect yet. Some think that it gives a cue character if the points don't line up perfectly. Others think that it's a must to have even points. I had a...

    Szam quote

My friend has a Gus Boti that he bought about a year before Gus' death. It has 4 ebony points and plain ebony butt sleeve. Both shafts have ivory ferrules. I would rate the butt in very good condition(about 9 of 10) with the shafts having minor coloring from play. We were discussing the cue and...

    All pool rooms closed

I don't disagree at all with what you are saying. The business is a tough nut to crack. I've just seen rooms that were thriving with their pool/grill/pro shop etc. and the owners get away from the core business after the poker machines/games arrive. The business changes from a pool room/grill...

    All pool rooms closed

I hate to hear that but IMO those machines are partly to blame for the decline in the business to start with. They made alot of room owners lazy. They neglected the other parts of the business because the poker machine money was so easy. I also believe that a room needs action. Many people will...

Do you use a toothpick to secure the linen wrap?

I start my wraps from the butt and go forward. Toothpick starts the wrap and loop under finishes the wrap.

I have a customer that wants a turquoise shade leather wrap. Does anyone have a line on where to find one? I spoke with Chris but his leather is more of a navy blue color. Any help is appreciated.

    2nd Joint in cue

I think that Sheldon Lebow has done this type of cue before.

    upgrade or second machine?

Why not both? Then you can taper two different things at the same time. I'm not endorsing either product but you'll find that the more dedicated machines you have the easier life is.

    Balabushka handle

Japan uses an alternative calendar to mark years. It's based on the number of years the current emperor has reigned. It differs from the christian calendar. The current emperer started his reign in our year 1988. The year 2000, for example, which happened to be the 12th year of the reign of the...

What is the Sleeve part of a cue?

Ebony is heavier than most woods but doesn't necessarily mean that the cue will be a rear balanced cue. There's many variables that determine a cues balance. Everything from shaft weight to joint pins as well as the woods used. Hope this helps

    Need help finding.....

I had a guy bring me an old Meucci original with cracked rings on the shaft and butt. Does anyone have a line on where I can get some of the off white/beige colored plastic stuff that Meucci used to use for the joints and butt caps. If I can't find the original stuff, the owner would be...

Shaft rings line up or not

On a new build, I purposely leave the rings a little short of being lined up. My thinking is, that after some use the threads in the shaft are going to relax/smoothen just a little and the shaft will turn just that little bit extra before becoming tight.

    happy day

I had a friend call and tell me that he had a couple of old house cues that he didn't need anymore and ask if I would have a use for them. I go to his home and he pulls out 8 cues, 3 are nice dark woods. The other 5 are Hoppe Titleists. All have damage at the tip end but the butts are sweet and...

    cue Making

I would build the cue. In fact I might be inclined to give the guy a quantity discount if he bought several. People trade cues and do other things that I would rather they didn't do. The cue belongs to them, They paid the agreed upon price. If they wan't to stick tomatoes, or burn the cues...
