Do tight pockets make you stroke differently?

I always focus on a smooth and fluid stroke, and when cheating the pocket(although you usually don't have much to cheat), precision and focus are paramount. I think it pushes me to a more pure precise style of play and away from being sloppy or lackadaisical, which makes me play better.

Tight practice tables in D.C./Arlington, Va. area?

There are 3 diamond pro cut tables in "Bank Shots" in Laurel, Md. Balls are kept clean, not a lot of friction between the balls. Plays tough and true. pretty good overall. You could also try Big Daddy's in Glen Burnie, Md. They have both, diamonds pro cut and GC's, equipment is very clean. My...

Properties of the woods used in Cues

I thought this might be a good way to all of us to share some of the knowledge that we have on the properties of woods that are used in cues being built today, so that when we go to have a custom cue built we might be better informed and we can make choices in selecting a cue that will play...

what do you think of this statement from the Black Boar cue website

It's my understanding that it has nothing to do with left or right eye dominance. . The best that I can do to try and explain my understanding of the theory is that when you are lining up the shot, if you are visualizing and feeling your shot then you are probably aiming primarily with your left...

    Francisco Bustamante's cue?

here is some info on the cue: http://www.blackboarcustomcues.com/build/default.asp?CTID=212&IID= all of Tony's tips start as 14 mm Triangle, then they are tested and graded to find the tips that the leather will compress the fastest and most. the shaft is a normal Boar shaft, they are chosen...

    Francisco Bustamante's cue?

I have the Boar that he used. It is no different from any of the other boars that Tony makes the weight is around 19.4 I showed the cue to Busty and the only thing he wanted to change was to sand the tip down, it was a new tip and he said it was too thick for his liking To this day Busty keeps...

Perils of leaving your cue in the car?

Its big rapid swings in humidity levels that causes the biggest problems. -No judgments on how to best manage your possessions- everyone is different -Best advice if you are leaving it in the car is to get a case as air tight as possible so that the swings in humidity are slowed down in the...

    too much focus on inlays

Interesting concept and overall, I tend to agree with you. But I think that the pool cue should be balanced in its entirety. Case in point: If you have a avg weight cue with a great tip (that matches your style of play) but the weight is concentrated in the butt of the cue and the shaft is...

    too much focus on inlays

It's not for me to set the price for each cue maker, they each have different overhead costs and expenses.

    too much focus on inlays

some of what is important -IMO Shafts: - the maple is harvested in winter so there isn't a lot os sap in the wood - it is naturally dried or dried slowly in a low heat ( don't cook the wood) - it is turned down over a period of at least 3 months( preferably more) with at least 6 cuts - if the...

    too much focus on inlays

I can guess by the lack of response from this thread, that most players either don't care or they don't want to learn what is important when it comes to the blank. It looks like people don't even care enough to educate themselves enough to ask the right questions. ---it's sad

    too much focus on inlays

It's just my opinion, but there is not enough attention on what is "under the hood" concerning pool cues these days. A lot of players and collectors just focus on inlays and how many there are. I think we, as pool players should take a step backwards and ask our cue makers some specific...

Lining up low on the cue ball?

2 reasons why Your right, alot of top players do this--very observant 1. Hitting the lower portion of the cue ball gives you a more true roll because you dont have any unintended masse effect and because you are hitting under the center of mass. 2. There is less chance for mis cues when you...

    shaft diameter you prefer???

-I'm just talking about variables with the stick.- of course there are hundreds of variables that affect the game, I just brought up a few that affect the stick. Just trying to give people a different perspective. -as for rolling your eyes, if you cannot feel the differences in variables in...

    shaft diameter you prefer???

Wtf? I'm amazed nobody has pointed out that it's not all about taper and tip. -you can put shaft "A" with a specific tip and taper on many different Butts and it will play different on all of them. -It is about weight distribution in the entire stick, your stroke(different cue specs for...
