My Daily Practice - Monday, Tue, Wed, etc...

I thought I was doing good just to hit the object ball with a kick shot! Anyway I think I will add just the following to my practice. I've never tried some of these shots, so it will be interesting to see what happens. (I added the follow kick shot BTW...) I'll place stickers on the table for...

My Daily Practice - Monday, Tue, Wed, etc...

I made a sign to place on my wall by my pool table which says... "To develop muscle memory, new skills should be practiced twice daily, separated by more than 4 hours for at least 4 or 5 days." This is certaintly something to think about and something which will utilize my limited time to...

My Daily Practice - Monday, Tue, Wed, etc...

Yes I agree. You may notice that I practice a few drills every day like... - Stroke practice. (Shoot balls directly into pockets without cue ball) - Bank stroke practice. (Bank balls without cue ball.) - Break Practice - As many rails as possible. (Remove balls from table and shoot only cue...

My Daily Practice - Monday, Tue, Wed, etc...

Well I'll tell you, a lot of the stuff on my list is the shots I am having trouble with or the most frustrating shots. (The things I need to practice or at one time I needed to practice.) Now the frozen balls practice (taking all 15 balls and freezing them to the rails and trying to shoot them...

    Is practicing alone sufficient?

Sure. I placed it in a separate thread called "My Daily Practice".

    Closed Bridge for Follow Shots?

I read somewhere about using a closed bridge for frozen to the rail shots and thought about using a closed bridge for follow shots. So I thought I'd try it... It seems to me a closed bridge works much better for follow shots than an open bridge. Anyone else notice this? I don't know if a...

    Graphite Cues?

Well that's what I thought at first, but I don't like wearing a glove and a wood shaft seems to slide through my fingers easier than a graphite cue. The graphite cue I tried seemed to "stick" in my fingers rather than glide. Also I have had my shaft modified in the past. You can't turn down a...

What do you guys drink while shooting pool?

In many bar "money" tournaments I go to, I would say the majority of players (especially the better players) drink coffee, soda pop, or water. We actually "clean up the bar" for a while! Many of the regular drunks seem to vanish and the bartenders like the break. One time a person who the...

    Safety Choices

In 9-ball, I like shooting the ball to the other end of the table - off the rail - soft hit, with stop or draw. With obstructing balls in the center of the table, this frequently leaves difficult/impossible shots and is quite easy to leave the cue ball hidden since you know exactly where the cue...

    Would tournaments be better with?

So far as TV tournaments... People have a short attention span. So I suppose they would get higher ratings. Personally I would rather watch 14.1. So far as "local" tournaments... I play in a few tournaments where they "do not allow safeties - you must attempt to pocket a ball on every shot"...

What do you guys drink while shooting pool?

At home I'll have a glass of ice tea, then water after that. If playing elsewhere, a Pepsi, then 7-Up after that.

    Ok....time for suggestions.

For speed control practice, I break all 15 balls, then hit each shot so the object ball stops just before the pocket, but does not go into the pocket. Also I practice shooting the cue ball only; 1/2 diamond, 1 diamond, 2, 3, 4, etc. 1 rail plus 1 diamond, 2, 3, 4, etc. And that is a good point...

    "Measles" Cue Ball

I bought one of those cue balls with all the red dots on them (measles ball). I bought it just to be the first kid on the block with one, but saw no practical reason for buying it... When I first got it, I thought all those red dots would be distracting. But they are not. Something interesting...

Practicing with tight pockets - I say it helps!

At first when I started using my pocket reducers, my confidence went out the window. It was sort of like stepping back to when I first started playing pool seriously and being at that beginners level again. But now I'm starting to make my shots again and my confidence is slowly returning. One...

Diamond Smart Table and Measles Ball?

Anyone know if a Diamond "Smart Table" will work with a Measles Ball (Cue ball with numerous red dots on it)? FYI, I read that the Diamond "Smart Table" has a cue ball return similar to a magnetic ball return, however it uses an optical sensor instead of a magnetic sensor. Therefore you can use...

    Educational Pool Sayings?

Anyone have have any "educational pool sayings" such as the following... -Stay down until the ball hits the pocket. -Always cut if possible instead of banking. -Amateurs practice until they can make a shot, Pro's practice until they never miss a shot. Any others?

    Billiard quotes

Some guy in a bar said this to me once... "I didn't pay 50 cents to watch you shoot pool!"
