I was asked the other day to make a cue with overlapping butterfly
points. this isn't my cut of tea. I only know 4 cuemaker who can
do this correctly. altough there are a lot of wantabe's and bignames out there who think you just can glue on sum veneers and cut a point over the veneers. there missing the boat. so if you really want a real butterfly cue you should contact one these guys. Paul Fanelli, Billy Webb, Mariposa cues by Kyle Van den Bosch, Barenbrugge cues

Paul Fanelli has pushed the envelope with butterflies more than anyone. Many of the more intricate butterfly designs are seeded by Paul's earlier work; his current butterfly designs are simply untouchable. I hope Joe wouldn't mind that I link this prime example: http://classiccues.com/graphics/cues/853_fore_1_hi.jpg

Also note the pointwork. It's my opinion that if Paul did nothing but traditional 4-point cues, his work would still be considered one of the cleanest, most precise out there. Deep V-points and perfect veneers, something often overlooked when people talk about Fanelli cues.

Pat Diveney and Chuck Starkey come to mind immediately.
I agree with all 6 of the names given. I have owned cues from these two personally.

Chuck builds a cue with a wood pin that is a favorite of mine. I have had a few, and just bought one back I had sold and had missed.

Chuck and Pat both stand behind their work 110% also. I think both of these guys are less expensive than the other cue makers named as well. You might PM Chuck and ask him if he has anything close to what you are looking for.

While everyone mentions names like Chuck Starkey and Steve Klein and Pat Diveney, it amazes me how so many people skip past Paul Fanelli.

I don't think its even debatable that Paul is at the forefront of the butterfly field. His designs and his construction have pushed the envelope to a new level. He is doing work that no one else does and maybe only one or two even could dream of attempting.

Paul is by far at the top of this field.

Like Roger, I hate to link to Joe's site without his permission but...

and

None of these other guys are doing work like this.

Wow!! I've always preferred points to butterfly inlays, but those are amazing. I agree - never seen any worksmanship even close to that in the butterfly field.

I agree....but his name was mentioned and was said that he would be the top butterfly maker out there. So, imo, I don't think his name was overlooked at all....just maybe not put in quite the right perspective as it probably should have!

I know it was mentioned. I was referring not necessarily to this thread but others in which so many are quick to put others at the top of the list when Paul is clearly #1.
