Who are the best butterfly cue makers

pharaoh68 said:
I know it was mentioned. I was referring not necessarily to this thread but others in which so many are quick to put others at the top of the list when Paul is clearly #1.
I have laid one of pauls and one of billy webbs side by side at the derby and asked at least 10+ people that know cues. and asked them what cue is executed the best? and 2 of those people were world class cuemakers the VAST majority chose billy web!paul being the best known, but that does not make him the best! but i would say he is in the top few

Miltonio

One cuemaker has been making butterfly, saturn ring, long points, etc and exotic woodwork for a really long time. You almost never see one of his cues on the secondary market, and he is getting pretty far up there in age, so I don't know how many more he will make.

Take a look at these beauts....

I also kept the ebony one in craigs picks, Billy is a humble man and a great cuemaker

Thanks very much, for the back-up. Many people do not realize how good Billy's work really is. There are currently only two Cue makers making cues to this level when it come to high end Butterfly cues, and you are certainly right Billy is a very Humble man. Because if you ask him he will give Paul Fanelli the credit for making the best.

I am truly glad that Billy is getting the recognition he deserves!

Thanks Craig

Lol...

Bill Webb makes a great cue, and I would even consider him for the #2 spot after Paul if we're talking about prolific butterfly CM's, but please don't babble about this as if you know what you're talking about. Don't say so and so "world class cuemakers" said this or that; you're in the bid'nus aren't you? Just come out and post what exactly falls short in Paul's cues compared to Bill's.

Then again, you also think Richard Black is a world class cuemaker. Did you ask him?

I would certainly include DB in this conversation. As far as I know, all three of them are very humble, down to earth individuals, and in the cuemaking world that is always a huge plus.

Roger, I agree that Dave is a humble gentleman, however, I have not seen any Butterfly cues he has built that incorporate over lapping Veneer's. If you have some photo's I would like see them. Now in no way am I saying that Dave is not a Master Cue Maker, and I truly respect him and all of his cue that I have seen. But to my knowledge he has not built any Butterfly cues to this level. Like I have already said, the only two cue makers building Butterfly Cues like the ones I have posted are Paul and Billy.

Have a good night!!!!

Wow!! I've always preferred points to butterfly inlays, but those are amazing. I agree - never seen any worksmanship even close to that in the butterfly field.
I'm not a big fan of butterfly cues, but those are BEAUTIFUL!

...and there is a reason he gives Fanelli that credit.. if anyone looking at some of those pictures they would know the style being shown in all those pics was created in Clifton NJ. But of course you need to actually KNOW cues to realize that. There isn't a BF cue on the planet that would stand up to the Firefly creation or the last cue that Paul made for me with the bridged veneering and the celtic band.

Paul is also very humble and sometimes she gets slightly embarrassed by these types of threads. He talks to Bill on the phone occasionally and I would probably think they both get a chuckle out of these threads.

Once again showing your ignorance. Thinner veneers Bill. Makes it easier to hide glue lines. Compare them again and then respond.

I was trying to find the cue Paul did with the bridged veneering and the celtic band, but couldn't find the pictures from it. Would you post a link or post pictures for that one?

Paul is incredibly humble and modest, and I take everyone's word that BW is as well. Ultimately this isn't about their respective work, it's about someone who is grossly misinformed about what constitutes "execution" in custom cues. Then instead of actually posting evidence for his claims, simply hides behind the skirt of hitherto unnamed "world class" cuemakers.

I am very aware of this, Billy has told me on a occasion that he has spoken to Paul in the past. I speak with Billy a couple times a week, he lived and owned a Business in Seattle, Washington. I do not think there is any real competition between Billy and Paul only respect for each others work.

we used the 7 venner red and black billy web and a coco pf, and the thing that came up was the glue lines and the uneven points on the fenelli, like the black cue above see how the first point is a 1/4" longer. that is what we seen also!

I do like Milts work. I have owned 4 of his cues, they are beautiful and they play great. I do not know who's best, but I do know what I like, and Milt Hyman (aka Miltonio) does fine work.:D
