Has anyone noticed how new members just all of a sudden show up without any introduction what-so-ever?
There's a thread currently going around about how an 'old school' style cue should look, and there are lot's of good replies coming in. Clean out of nowhere comes an opinion from a guy, and it's post count 1 from him. No howdy-doo-how-are-you, or no "I'm new here", or "Long time lurker, first time poster", and certainly no "I sure hope to learn something by being here". No nothing.
Back in the day a new member properly introduced themselves, and would sometimes ask for permission to join in. They usually told us where they were they're from, and which game of pool they preferred. Stuff like that.
Not now, it seems.

I don't read the intro thread and don't really care about it but that is just me.

As for the amount of posts I don't use that as a judge for anything. On many forums including this one many will run up their posts counts with useless posts.

Those people just answer every post by quoting the OPs post and then write nice photo, nice cue, thanks for your input and etc.

Back when i first joined AZ (2004; different screen name), it was like that. But this forum was VERY different back then. Most of the regulars around in those days seldom post anymore, perhaps because the site / the internet in general has gotten so big and the 'quaintness' of it (if that makes any sense) is lost.

"Long time lurker; first time poster" etc.. But that was over a decade ago. This site was still relatively small. Maybe a few thousand posters. But 13 years later, everyone's connected via Facebook, twitter, intagram, etc.. Interaction with strangers online is commonplace. People don't feel like they're connecting to new people anymore. They just feel like a forum is another place for them to be heard.

The times, they are a'changin'.

Makes sense. Thanks.

I didn't think anything of it. I expect new/resurgent posters around DCC since there is so much going on. I like it. Reminds me of it was when I joined. Like someone else said I typically don't read into threads anyway. If you're contributing cool/good stuff that's fine with me no matter how long you've been here.

If you ever needed proof that post count doesn't equal valuable contributions go check out some of Busboy's posts. #nicecue

Ok, I guess I'm guilty. Hi, I'm Z-Nole. I still lurk most of the time. I play one pocket when either the weather or the tides aren't right for fishing. I'm here to learn how to really stretch the truth for when I'm on the Florida Sportman and other fishing forums.

Tramp I'm surprised you don't know what that is, you frequent npr.

I'm guessing that's an npr poster who got banned in npr or doesn't want to show face so to speak after their antics in npr.

Just a guess.

I don't think I introduced myself either though when I joined and I jumped rt in.

garczar(Bill)here; been on since '07 and have about 1,500 posts. I'm kind of a seasonal lurker. Play golf a lot in spr/sum and mostly pool when cold. This forum is the nuts: always entertaining and sometimes(usually) educational. We're all newbies sometime Tramp so don't hammer 'em too hard.

I'm not hammering, as you say, new members. I'm making note of what I consider the rudeness of a new member on his, or her, first post.
I feel the very first post should be one of introduction. If memory serves there is even a 'sticky' about it.
To me it's like walking into a pool hall on your very first day and sitting down at a table full of old hands and jumping right into the middle of their conversation. It just doesn't go over well. :)

I just realized that after 5721 posts I have never introduced my self.
Let me fix that.
I'm 70 years old.
Playing pool for 57 years.
I still work full time in the flooring business.
I live in the enlightened state of Colorado.Concealed carry,Casinos, legal pot, state lottery.
And I'm a proud deplorable.
Any questions ?
